GI Show 218: Microsoft Buys Mojang, Hyrule Warriors, Destiny Review

The Game Informer Show show

Summary: This week we talk about a surprising Wii U exclusive, the year's biggest video game acquisition, and catch up with post-review impressions of Destiny. In our first segment, we discuss the year's biggest (and most shocking) business deal: Microsoft's multi-billion dollar acquisition of Mojang and the Minecraft franchise. Mojang went from being one of the biggest independent studios in the world to being part of a technology giant – but founder Notch isn't sticking around. We talk about what this deal means for Mojang, Microsoft, and the future of Minecraft. Next up, host Matt Helgeson is joined by Andrew Reiner and reviewer Kyle Hilliard to talk about Hyrule Warriors, a new merging of the Zelda and Dynasty Warriors franchises. We didn't have high expectations for this, but it actually turned out to a be one of the year's nice surprises. Listen in to hear why. In the third segment, we bring back Matt Miller and Dan Tack to further discuss Bungie's Destiny. Our review wasn't up when it was discussed last week, and both editors have had significantly more playtime with the game since then. We update our impressions and also talk about what the plan should be moving forward for the MMO/shooter hybrid. (Please visit the site to view this media)
