Summary: Dr. Edward Poa, is the Medical Director, Compass Young Adult Program, The Menninger Clinic; Assistant Professor, Menninger Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Poa leads a multidisciplinary treatment team for the Compass Program. He and his treatment team assess and treat young adults from 18 to 30 who have major psychiatric disorders that may be complicated by chemical dependency or a personality disorder Treating young adults presents significant challenges to providers, as most of what we know that is effective treatment for substance use disorders is based on adult research. Dr. Poa will discuss the challenges as well as effective treatment interventions for young adults.
