Summary: Patrise Perkins-Hooker and Doug Hooker are a well-educated African-American power couple in Atlanta, Georgia, the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr. As the Civil Rights Movement unfolded (1955–1968), Patrise and Doug were growing up; as they went out into the workplace they were usually the "first" ... first African American to be hired, head a committee, lead a department, serve on a board, be in charge. What was it like being first and how does it look for the second, third, and fourth generations of African Americans who are benefitting from the Civil Rights Movement?
