Summary: This past week, my friends at AT&T sent me a Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch to test. With a full color screen along with a 1.9 megapixel camera, a speaker, two microphones and a suite of dedicated apps, the watch can handle many different things. Getting a call or need to do almost anything with respect to your phone? You don’t even need to take the phone out of your pocket. That level of convenience is where the Galaxy Gear shines. You can check notifications from your smartphone, record a voice memo, look at your phone’s pictures and even control your phone’s media through the Gear. Is the Galaxy Gear awesome? Yes … but there’s a catch: you also have to have the Galaxy Note 3, which is the only phone the Gear currently pairs with. Support for more devices is coming, but for now, the Gear is nothing more than a luxury item if you have a Note 3, and completely worthless if you have any other phone.
