Summary: When will we see Amazon’s smartphone? It’s widely known that the e-commerce giant is working on smartphones – reports say Amazon is working on up to three different models – but Amazon shot down the idea that the phone would launch this year and that it would be free. The most recent reports from Bloomberg suggest that the company has been talking to HTC for the past few months to help develop handsets. The report also suggests that the phones might be available only for members of Amazon Prime, which launched as a fast-shipping service but has quickly evolved into a media streaming destination. Amazon has done everything it can to get its Amazon Instant Video service on more devices, and having a smartphone centered around that experience would help a lot. Could Amazon offer its phone at little to no cost for new and existing subscribers of Amazon Prime? Anything is possible, and with millions of existing Prime subscribers and more joining every day, the market for an Amazon-powered phone could be staggering.
