Summary: As the 9th of Av approaches (Tisha B'Av), we prepare our hearts for this tragic day. On that day in history, many tragedies have taken place, including: The sending out of the 12 Spies into the land (after which, they brought back an evil report and brought exile upon the people for another 40 years), The First Temple built by Solomon is destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE The Second Temple built by Ezra and Nehemiah is destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE The city of Betar is destroyed and over 100,000 Jews are killed in 132 CE The Roman Commander Turnus Rufus decimates the Temple Mount and surrounding areas in 133 CE ...and my more tragedies throughout time. As you listen, you will learn why we should keep this fast day and mourn with our brother Judah and all Israel. The 9th of Av occurs this year (2013) from Monday night to Tuesday Night (7/15 - 7/16).
