Summary: Pinchas/”Phinehas”, covering Numbers 25:10-30:1, provides for us the finishing details concerning Israel’s encounter with Baal Peor that started in the previous parshah of Balak. In the midst of Israel being dealt with concerning their idolatry, a man of the tribe of Simeon, Zimri, blatantly takes one of the Midianite women in front of the sight of all before the Tabernacle. Yet Pinchas deals with this rebellion by slaying them both. At first glance, it seems that this is something quite far removed from where we are today. Yet by taking a closer look into the names of the individuals involved here, you’ll find that the house is still having to deal with the same sin in the camp. But there’s still a covenant of peace that’s available to partake in, if we’ll be like Pinchas and follow his example! Click here for Brittney's Notes
