Personal Taste

Reaching Your World with Luis Palau show

Summary: As generations collide, there are often conflicts. As a member of the older generation at a church with many members of all ages, I see this often. Many people my age don't like the loud, upbeat music that the young people enjoy. Many young people don't like the hymns that we enjoy. Did you know that even when the style is different, the heart of the message can remain intact? I've chosen to pay attention to the heart of the message because if it's reaching young people, that's all that matters.  I don't really care if I enjoy the style or not.  Do the lyrics honor Jesus? When picking a church home, we must distinguish between personal taste and biblical truth. Look for a church that teaches God's word.  If it looks a little different than what you're used to, that's okay. Paul said in 1 Corinthians, "I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some."Perhaps your new worship pastor with a contemporary style is an evangelist at heart like Paul - and his new music is his way of using all means to save some. Don't despise his style and miss his heart. Embrace different styles of church and evangelism, and you will reach your world.
