Christoph von Dohnányi and Frank Peter Zimmermann

New York Philharmonic Podcast show

Summary: On March 29–31 Christoph von Dohnányi conducts three works: Schnittke’s ironic (K)ein Sommernachtstraum, Tchaikovsky’s emotional and tragic Symphony No. 6, Pathétique, and the lyrical and folk-infused Dvorák Violin Concerto, a collaboration with Frank Peter Zimmermann in the conclusion of his tenure as the Philharmonic’s Marie-Josée Artist-in-Residence. The violinist says of the Dvorák: “I really love playing this music…. It was the first big, Romantic violin concerto that I learned.” Director of Education Theodore Wiprud and podcast host Mark Travis provide a musical guide to the works being performed.
