Summary: The Nauvoo Temple was announced by Joseph Smith and completed by the Latter-day Saints in 1846. They were able to receive ordinances in that House only for a short time before they were driven from the city. They expended monumental effort and resources for its completion and dedication only to walk away and leave it to be destroyed by fire. This is the story of the first building of the Nauvoo Temple.
