Bold As Love Song Guide Course In this lesson we’ll study a very cool chord embellishment that Jimi Hendrix played in the song “Bold As Love”. Jimi was able to create a feeling of movement when he played rhythm, and in this lesson we’ll look at how he does that by skipping the root of a chord, jumping straight to the embellishment, then landing on the root of the following chord.

In this lesson we’ll look at the major soloing “themes” that Stevie Ray Vaughan used when he played the song Texas Flood.  Hendrix - Killing Floor Intro | File Type: video/quicktime | Duration: 762

In this lesson we’re looking at the intro to Killing Floor, as covered by Jimi Hendrix. This is a fast, syncopated rhythm that Jimi played so fast that it’s hard to make sense of what you’re hearing. But when you slow it down and clean it up, you’ll find two simple patterns responsible for “that” sound. In this lesson I’ll teach you both patterns note-for-note. TXBA Locals will also get SoundSlice tablature with this lesson, along with Instant Loops pre-programmed around each individual part of the Demonstration.

I’ve had a number of people ask me for advice about how to effectively use open strings, so I’ve put together this lesson with every way I can think of using open strings in 4 different keys. There’s a lot covered, hopefully some of it will be useful.

Albert King - Killing Floor Solo (Wattstax), 1:31 | File Type: video/quicktime | Duration: 692

Albert King is known mostly for his intense slow blues playing, but his style also works really well over an uptempo rockin’ beat. The 12-bar solo you’ll learn in this lesson comes from a live performance of the song “Killing Floor” off of the “Blues At Sunset” album. There are only a few licks, and all of them are similar. But Albert was a master of nuance, and within these few licks, there’s a full range of expression - enough to cover 12-bars.

Why Does Speed Matter? | File Type: video/quicktime | Duration: 811

When I started playing guitar, all I could think about was playing fast - mostly because I wanted people to think I was great. Over the years I’ve learned to think of speed differently, using it as a tool more than as a “destination”. In this video I’ll share a bit about how I escaped the mentality that speed was all it took to be a great guitarist. But I’ll also talk about why I still think playing fast, or rather having having the technical capability to play fast, matters.

 KWS - True Lies Rhythm | File Type: video/quicktime | Duration: 793

In this lesson I’ll show you how to play the rhythm part for the main 12-bar progression of “True Lies” by Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The underlying rhythm is familiar, you may recognize it from other songs, but there’s a few tricks to making it sound as heavy as he does.
