Podcasts:
Infantryman Bill Cheall's account of the lead up to D-Day on the south coast of England, covering the preparation and thoughts of the soldiers as they went into battle in the first wave of troops on Gold Beach. The narrative includes graphic descriptions of the sea journey towards the beaches and the action as the troops exit the landing craft. This is followed by an account by Sergeant Brian Moss of the Royal Engineers (who was wounded on the beaches) and his subsequent attempt to put a gun emplacement out of action.
Three war veterans' memoirs combine to produce three gripping, at times humorous, perspectives of the dramatic battle where Monty releases Rommel's final grip on North Africa.
Graphic account of Bill Cheall's traumatic experience on the Dunkirk beaches. Narrated by Bill Cheall's son, Paul, editor of Bill's published war diary and memoirs. More info at www.fightingthrough.co.uk
