 EPISODE 63 // Jonetsu Studios Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:14:27

We had the pleasure of meeting Camille and Chadwick (the genius photographers from Jonetsu Studios) a few years ago, and were amazed then at how great they were as people. And we have been following them ever since, watching as their images continue to amaze. If you haven't heard of Jonetsu before, well, allow me tell you a bit about them. They are Canon Canada Northern Explorers of Light (only 7 photographers from the country are chosen for this - that's a pretty big deal!), voted one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world by American Photo magazine, chosen as one of the Best of the Best from Junebug weddings, winners of tons of other awards, etc, etc, etc. You get it I think...these guys are good! And we had a great conversation with them about all things photography, such as staying current in the marketplace, personal projects, loving your clients, and then some hard hitting journalism such as "what does Jonetsu mean?". We are looking forward to seeing them again at the Canada Photo Convention in April. Enjoy the interview! You can check out Camille and Chadwick's work here: Jonetsu Studios website Jonetsu Studios on Facebook

EPISODE 60 // Daniel Usenko and Smart Albums | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:15

Super glad to have a few minutes with Daniel Usenko of Smart Albums. Smart Albums is a absolutely wonderful product that makes album designing a breeze and Daniel is one of the talented crew that brought it to our attention. I caught this video as soon as it came out and was immediately intrigued and bought it while it was still in Beta. I was that impressed. I have owned a number of design software and I personally have always wanted some software that made the designing easier and more user friendly than let's say Indesign or some of the others and this fit the bill. First of all it's not Indesign nor does it attempt to replace it and there are still some things I would love to see changed and more specific to my workflow but so far I have nothing but good things to say. It's wonderful, fast and makes the albums deign process fun. Imagine that? Please enjoy the podcast and if you would like to get more information on Smart Albums head straight to their website...after of course listing to the podcast!

 EPISODE 56 // Film is Dead? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:45

We're back and ready to get people talking. After a long and busy summer Kelly and I are back and ready to blather about everything photography. Nikon recently announced the retro designed DF camera and it has really changed the playing field in the battle of film vs Digital, or has it? Over the past few years companies like Nikon and Fuji have jumped on board with retro styling in order to create this perfect blend(?) of classic film shooting with digital capabilities. We know that film has recently enjoyed a huge resurgence but is it only a matter of time before it goes back to sleep for about 5 years? We of course get on and off topic but who knows, you may actually agree with us and our take on the future of this and how it can effect your own business model or personal shooting style. We really hope we don't appear to take sides (even though it's obvious) and would love to hear and comments or feedback on this topic. It's certainly one that every photographer is passionate about be it one side or the other. ... oh yea we mention "Black Friday" on this show and a few toys you may want to pick up. (easy SEO plug)

EPISODE 55 // Gardner Hamilton Interview about Street Photography | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:18

We're switching gears on the show today and going outside our portrait boxes. With the resurgence of Street Photography around the world we felt that it was a great opportunity to have a guest who's dedication and passion to the topic was all in. Gardner Hamilton is truly a man who is educated and very invested in the genre. A wedding photographer of over 25 years and always a man to travel and shoot on the streets, Gardner brought so much more to the show than I could have ever imagined. I had first seen Gardners' name on an ISPWP contest winners page and then more prominently when I joined the growing Blackandwhitestreet.com website, where he is the founder and one of the curators. His wealth of knowledge in photography was truly humbling and Kelly and I had a tonnes of "ah ha!" moments. It's great to listen to a man like this and I left our conversation with some serious questions about my own shooting and education. Kelly and I will be the first to admit that we didn't fully understand the genre and how important it is to photography, but we left the conversation with several great ideas on how to integrate street photography into our wedding and portrit sessions. Enjoy the episode and although Kelly and I made a mess of it, Gardner cleaned it up!lol You can participate in the Blackandwhitestreet.com here: Blackandwhitestreet.com Blackandwhitestreet.com on Facebook Gardner Hamilton Website

 EPISODE 54 // Nordica Photography Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:06

We have our last recorded interview from our trip to the Canada Photo Convention last April in Vancouver. Aside from being extremely talented photographers and world travellers they have fully utilized their marketing degrees and maximized SEO and a business plan to it's full potential. I (carey) personaly can appreciate the experiences and style they shoot in and love how they have integrated the landscape and the people when they shoot abroad. I think it's so important to make the shoot just as much about the destination as the couples involved and can be directly related to an local weddings as well. We had a few minutes with them and discussed and revisited their speech about strategy in our businesses and how it's made them one of the most successful teams in the wedding industry. They had some extremely helpful tips and we're excited to share them with you. If you haven't already please check out their website and you'll be blown away. You can see their work here: Nordica Photography Image copyright Nordica Photography

Brian is cool, smart, funky, energetic, talented and wise beyond his years~ Kelly and I first met Mr. Brian Van Wyk at the inaugural Canada Photo Convention in 2012 and immediately were drawn to his great personality and drive. Brian was asked to speak at the most recent Canada Convention and his talked dealt with tackling and using facebook and social media as an ally and voice for our businesses. It was very insightful information and although I understand the value that social media has Brian certainly understood how to best use it efficiently and effectively. Please enjoy our talk with Brian and as always we'd love to hear your feedback. You can check out Brians website here: Brian Van Wyk

EPISODE 51 // Kirsten Lewis Documentary Photographer Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 38:28

Warning!!!! If you don't like Kirsten Lewis and her work then there is a good chance that you hate fun. Please don't listen to this episode if you are a fun hater. Why would you hate fun anyway? Seriously, fun is awesome. Kirsten is a wonderful and talented young gal who hails from Colorado and has a truly unique concept with her branding and business. What she does, and wait for this, she tailors her site and her body of work to the type of client she wants to attract. You may laugh, but many of us fail in this area and if we don't fail , then we fail to maximize our attraction to our ideal client. Take a listen to a recent podcast we had with Kirsten via google Hangout where we talk about her approach to documentary family and wedding portraiture and a little about dating websites. If you have a chance please take a look at her website and notice how it's a personal reflection of herself. Thanks so very much for being on the show and enjoy the listen!

 EPISODE 50 // Interview with Ryan Brenizer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:43

Our latest guest on the show is the uber-talented Ryan Brenizer of NYC. We caught up with Ryan at the Canada Photo Convention and after hearing hom talk I was very impressed with his take on weddings and portrait. I had first heard of Ryan through his photo technique called the "Brenizer effect" where you can create a very cool and shallow depth image that appears wide angled through stitching images together in post. If you hav a chance definitely take look see online and you'll be trying it yourself as the results are very cool. I expected our talk to be based on this technique but was thoroughly pleased to hear his thoughts on problem solving and dealing with clients and customers. Enjoy the podcast and please don't hesitate to contact us with comments, suggestions or future show topics and we'll do our best to address them.

EPISODE 48 // Interview with the CPC Grand Pubbah Jasser Abu-Giemi | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:12
