Jason and Greg couldn't help but continue the last podcast's intriguing discussion on simplicity vs. complexity (complexity sucks, and those who conquer it for the customer, wins!!). In fact, they didn't finish, so the next episode will be Simplicity 3.0, to be continued. And the journalist to the profession, Rick Telberg, comes on and blows their minds with thought-provoking future-oriented discussions about the CPA profession.
Now officially past the 1 year anniversary of the THRIVEcast (the sponsorship support has not been pulled yet! yeah!), Episode 13 brings on a discussion of the Steve Jobs biography, Steve's views on simplicty and an interview with Phil Simon on his newest book, The Age of the Platform.
With the release of their 12th podcast, Jason and Greg party in Las Vegas at the posh Aria Resort and try to stump their guests about the future of the CPA profession. Mark Koziel, Director at the AICPA and Tom Hood, CEO of the innovative Maryland Assoc of CPAs field the tough questions, share their 'why' and top it off with a Yoda impersonation. And neither one of them have committed fraud, BTW.
Jason got a new microphone, so he sounds sexy on this podcast. Jason and Greg dive deep into what Design Thinking is, when it is used and how you can apply it to your CPA firm or company. Learn about "Answer a question with a question." Then they get chummy during an interview with Rene Lacerte, CEO of Bill.com. Rene and Greg and are swimmy buddies. Maybe they'll wear matching tops when they see each other in Las Vegas at the AICPA Prac+Tech conference! Twinners!
Jason and Greg are in rare form this month with unending offenses to the brethren! Accept the apologies in advance. They have fun pimping some blog articles written by Jason on THRIVEal.com and Greg takes a deep dive into what the Service Profit Chain means for employees and customers. Then they top it off with an inspiring interview from Michelle Golden, and get some insights into her new book. Come see Jason, Greg and Michelle at the next Verasage event in Las Vegas: http://meetverasage.eventbrite.com/
Jason and Greg make a road trip to Austin, TX, home of SXSW for this episode! Pimping cloud products like CloudSway and Freshbooks they talked to CPA rock star, Jody Padar, CPA on her firm's technology and firm growth strategy. Also on hand, Tom Hood, CPA leadership extraordinaire in the CPA world, brought needed dignity to the "CPAs Gone Wild" at SXSW. With clown cars, mechanical bulls, planking, Rex Havoc, and a Russian dude with an ear ring, they needed some dignity!
Jason and Greg embark again on a goofy trek through the world accounting. They explore knowing how you are influenced by the firm you work for, and whom you are influencing. You need a TCR, your island of influence, to stay stable and remain creative, innovative and blowing stuff up in the professional world of public accounting. Kara Haas also sheds light on how the profession needs to move into the world of serving through technology and becoming innovators (as opposed to laggards).
Join us for another episode of the THRIVEcast. Greg talks about the Black Swan (again!) and Jason holds off until next time to talk about which friends you need kick out of your life. Jason and Greg interview Dr. Rafi Mohammed, author of the 1% Windfall, and a lively guest too!
Jason dives into some myths of what a ROWE is in the business workplace, along with some experiences in his own firm. Greg talks through the need for complaining customers and how they make us better professionals. And Jay Shepherd, a knowledge pricing professional, award-winning blogger and speaker with Prefix, LLC, laughs with Jason and Greg and talks about his new book Firing At Will. Hot dang!
This is a special live edition of the THRIVEcast held in Greenville, SC during the two-day Firm of the Future Symposium with Ron Baker and Ed Kless. The taping of the live podcast was held downtown Greenville, SC at the innovative facility Zen with close to 50 THRIVEal CPA members from around the country! Greg takes us through our inability to really know what we suck at (from The Black Swan book), while Jason takes us on a tour of how the THRIVEal +CPA Network has morphed into a Coaching society among it's members. To Engage, Empower and Encourage is their goal as they move forward to add new pricing models in 2012 to assist in these endeavors. Jason and Greg interview the Fujitsu ScanSnap spy, Kim Hogan ('ScanSnap Kim'), about a dirty "paperless" secret. They also interview the brilliant Marshal Kushniruk, Exec VP of Avalara, and his predictions of how Avalara will be present in all future business transactions.
Jason learns from ticket scalpers how to make more money, with a few tips on how to apply these principles to professional firms, while Greg taps into his hippie side and dives into the true meaning of Community (deep!). And internet security giant, SmartVault CEO, Eric Pulaski joins them for some techno fun that would make the biggest geek happy!
Jason and Greg are back for round 2 of in-your-face talks on disney innovations, revelations of the CPA evil genius and how to sell without selling. Huh?
The title says it all.
