At A Crossroads with The Naked Podcaster show

Summary: First interview November 12, 2019: https://youtu.be/Rb3Tcg3YMFA In our first interview, we discussed Nancy’s physical, emotional and sexual abuse, being put in foster care, the continuing abuse, her father's death when she was 28. She’s been an advocate for abused children and intellectually challenged adults, has fostered and adopted children, and served on the board of two related non-profits. Professionally, she has over 30 years of leadership experience in the financial services industry across numerous disciplines, with a passion for empowering individuals in the workplace. She wants to champion others to say “I am an incest survivor” without shame, guilt, or fear of repercussions, and to open a dialogue that removes the societal taboo of acknowledging and discussing incest. Just as we rush to put out a house fire and support the survivors with love, compassion, and help, Nancy dreams that one day we will rush without judgment to extinguish the fire of incest. A strong voice for those shamed to silence and the long-term impacts of child sexual abuse, Nancy hosts the Tail of the Bell podcast available on most podcast platforms. Each episode focuses on a specific topic interpreted through a featured incest survivor’s personal story and, where needed, further explored by experts. A trained life coach, Nancy also helps incest survivors help themselves through Tail of the Bell, Inc's programs. TAIL OF THE BELL: We provide unique coaching programs for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, particularly emphasizing parent-child incest, to help them thrive in their personal, communal, and professional spaces. We incorporate a holistic approach to supporting these individuals while raising community awareness; by educating employers on ways to assist survivors, by enabling survivors to empower one another in a safe place, by providing a survivor’s voice through motivational talks at various engagements, and by facilitating Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training. What’s behind our name? A bell curve is often used to describe the occurrence of a wide variety of real-world human characteristic data, such as a person’s height or IQ, where most numbers are concentrated around an average, there’s an equal likelihood of highs and lows, and extreme occurrences are rarer. Here, the bell curve is used to represent the distribution of normal life experiences. Most people will have experiences that fall within a tight range around the average such as riding a bike for the first time, marriage, graduation, etc. As you move further away from the center, where the average life occurrences reside, toward the graphical ends you will see extreme outliers. On the right side, are those that have achieved rare, ever-lasting bliss. On the left side, are those that have experienced extreme tragedy and loss. These individual outliers when grouped together, become the “tail”. Tail of the Bell works with individuals whose personal histories are at the extreme left end of a life experiences bell curve to empower them to move beyond their beginnings, stand big, connect with their peers, choose happiness, and fulfill their dreams. As outliers, these individuals may find it difficult to be understood by those with more common personal histories. If this resonates with you, you are not alone and we can help.
