When Culture Tells You to be a "Strong Black Woman" and How to Get Real feat. Sweet Shae'

Planner Lifestyle Podcast show

Summary:
Season 3, Episode 5

Nostalgia hits as Shae' reminisces about her planner journey from the early days of ordering KAD to the time she found Planner Kate.

Shae' is soon to drop a new podcast show of her own called But For Real, so naturally, we had to get real. We took the time to consider her cultural pressures to "be strong" as a black woman. She admits for one of the first times what she is grieving during this season and how she intends to use her pain to help others. She's an "imperfect person" and she thinks her planner should reveal that about her. Mistake? Slap a sticker on it.

Topics we cover:

Boxer dogs

Some shops: Libby & Co., KAD, Erin Condren, Planner Kate

Using a 1.0 white gel pen to cover mistakes (from According to Ali)

Making mistakes in your planner (spoiler alert - I can't use a correction tape roller to save my life)

Zoom and Skype Planner meetups during COVID

Her career as a math coach (She's has a National Board Certification in Education)

Flexibility with things you can't control

Using Empathy and avoided assumptions

Cultural pressures from childhood to be a strong black woman

How to work together as a couple in a relationship

It's okay to ask for help

How to be vulnerable and share your pain or walk with others in their pain

New podcast coming soon!

Her journey with infertility and hope for her future

Guest Info:

Name - LaShae’ “Shae’”

IG: @Swtshae (personal/planning account)

@butforrealpodcast (podcast account)

My guest says it so well...

Hi, I’m Shae’… a 30 something wife, boxer dog mom to Lennox and Layla amongst many other things. Though I’ve been planning pretty much since middle school, I’ve been in the planner community for about 5 years though most don’t know me. That’s because I am an introvert that talks only when I have something to say.

When I’m not planning, I am a full-time Math Coach in the public-school setting. I was able to take the planning skills I’ve learned over the years into how I manage my schedule and time at work. With that, I’d say planning is much more than a habit for me. It’s a skill that has definitely helped me stay organized while allowing me to be creative. That’s one of the main reasons I enjoy the planner community.

It’s not only because I like planning, but mostly because I have found so much inspiration from the people in the community. There are some amazing people that bring so much positivity into the world through more than a planner.
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/planner-lifestyle-podcast/message
