EMS Suicide Code Green Campaign and Episode 465

MedicCast Audio Podcast for EMT Paramedics and EMS Students show

Summary: How do we manage our own stress from the job and what do we do to recognize unmanaged stress in our coworkers. The Code Green Campaign is focused on helping EMS providers recognize and stop suicide in our own ranks. If that’s what you’re looking for, you found it, right here on this week’s episode of the MedicCast.<br> Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the MedicCast. For example, if someone is having a stroke or heart attack that needs rapid intervention, we will tell the hospital the patient is having a “code stroke” or “code STEMI”. The idea is that we are calling a code alert on our mental health. The campaign has two main goals. The primary goal is raising awareness of the high rates of mental health issues, substance abuse and suicide among first responders. The secondary goal is providing education for responders on how to provide care for themselves and recognize issues in their peers.
