I’m your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I’d like to welcome you to this week’s show. Kicking off the single major news item this week we are joined by our good friend Lisa Booze of the Maryland Poison Center to talk about the impact synthetic opioids are having on overdose injury and death nationwide.
Then in this week’s special tip segment from the EMS Today conference earlier this year, we have Sean Eddy on the show where he talks about EMS provider fiscal responsibility and health. Check it out coming up later in the show.
All of these segments this week were recorded thanks to the continuing support and sponsorship of the Physio-Control corporation. Thank them for supporting your EMS podcasting community.
—
News:
It’s not a surprise that we have a heroin epidemic in the United States right now. In 2014, there were 10,574 overdose deaths related to heroin; 26% more than in 2013. What has become apparent is that many of the heroin overdoses and deaths that we are seeing are not just due to heroin. Fentanyl and fentanyl analogs are being added to heroin, usually without the buyer’s knowledge. Check out this special interview segment with Lisa Booze, PharmD. from the Maryland Poison Center to talk about this important problem they are seeing coming through their phone lines recently.
Maryland Poison Center Site
—
EMS Tip of the Week: EMS Provider Well-Being
This week on the tip of the week, I have a final segment from the EMS Today conference in the Physio-Control booth where I interviewed EMS blogger and educator Sean Eddy about his initiatives to help EMS providers to live smarter with both better health and better finances.
