Audio Sancto show

Summary: Sermon titled "Overcoming Habitual Sin by Compunction" given on Monday March 23, 2015. Size: 2.9 MB; duration: 12:43. Compunction is about piercing the heart with habitual contrition. It is a gift from God to help us overcome habitual sin. It helps us to grow, blossom, bear fruit. Saint Teresa of Jesus entered into spiritual heights through compunction. She tells of a noblewoman, Doa Catalina, who overcame her vanity and pride via compunction, while holding a crucifix, and later became a pious, Carmelite nun, founding a convent for Saint Teresa. First we pray for it, second we meditate on the Passion, considering our own sins and how they inflicted the wounds on our Lord, and third we remember our future death, which will help us to be contrite. Compunction helps us see how our sins have crucified the Lord. It is a gift we should want - it will defeat opposition to doing God's will. When we finally have compunction, nothing is too hard. We will gain habitual contrition.
