Liberty Conspiracy - 7-2-14 - US Supreme Court, Speech, and Abortion Clinics, How Govt-Run Property Can't Allow Everyone to Exercise Rights

Liberty Conspiracy show

Summary: We hope you like this production, which covers a number of the recent US Supreme Court rulings (with more to come). In particular, we focus on the recent ruling that protesters of abortion cannot be stopped by localities or states from protesting on public sidewalks outside abortion clinics. This ruling gave us the chance to look at the so-called "tragedy of the commons", in which anything that uses tax money, that is "commonly run" will inspire lots of people to try to use that publicly run thing for their own needs -- inspiring over use or argumentation over which use can be chosen. We also talk about the hypocrisy of Antonin Scalia when it comes to rights. He exemplifies how many politicians and judges view rights -- that they can be abridged by government whenever agents of the state decide it it "reasonable". If that's the case, then rights, as George Carlin said, are not rights, they are privileges. We also talk about a Constitutional technicality regarding "recess appointments", in case folks want to know about that issue as it was "decided" by the Supreme Court. Hope you dig the show!
