According to Saint Bernard, there are three types of people who claim to be humble: people who feel humble; people who think they are humble; people who actually are humble. We need to remember we are creatures who depend on God, and that God is the Creator who depends on nothing. Since creatures were made from nothing, if God walked away from us, we would return to nothingness. The only thing that man can claim as being truly his is sin, and realizing this is our first step toward being truly humble.
