You may remember Kate's first album released in 1970,called Sister Kate, which her famous brother James Taylor helped her to record and produced by his friend friend and manager Peter Asher. "I think songwriters could think of their songs as their bios/history. They paint a picture of where we’ve been – when and where they were conceived and our interpretation of life’s situation at that time. “Both Sides of Me” written in a cabin in Tennessee thinking about life, “Lost in Austin”, my first year in Austin, “I Awoke” on a picnic table camping at Lake Travis, “The Fish Song” after a night of partying and philosophizing with an interesting woman named Mel, and more recently Inner Peace, lookin out my window in Cedar creek tx, thinking about life"... says Nancy..Nancy has been performing her original songs for over 35 years, mostly in Texas, but also in other parts of the country. Her first album, yes, vinyl, released in 1987, “has a collection of tunes that many a popular, big name artist would give their eye teeth to own. Check out Both Sides of Me." Belle, Music City Texas, March 1992. Her next recording, HeartPrints in Clay (Reminiscent Records), released September 1995, was produced and co-arranged by Betty Elders and carefully put together by a culmination of talented Austin musicians. The songs in this collection represent a more serious, yet ever hopeful side of Nancy's soul. Her songwriting continues to evolve as she is currently working on a new CD. Nancy's songwriting style varies from folk to blues blended with a touch of country and rock and her talent has not gone unacknowledged or unnoticed. She was included in the top ten songwriters in the Austin Music Umbrella Songwriter's Contest and her talents have been honored too many times to mention here.01:00:00Frankie & Johnnynonancy scott, blues folk country rock, singer songwriter, unstoppable frankie picasso, frankie and johnny music hourPlease join the Unstoppable Frankie Picasso and co host Wendy Allyn as we swing and dosey do over to Texas once again ( why is there such GREAT artists and musiTwo Great Groups, the music of Noah Earle and Shanniehttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/frankie--johnny/2010/03/23/two-great-groups-the-music-of-noah-earle-and-shannMusichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/frankie--johnny/2010/03/23/two-great-groups-the-music-of-noah-earle-and-shann/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/frankie--johnny/2010/03/23/two-great-groups-the-music-of-noah-earle-and-shannTue, 23 Mar 2010 00:00:00 GMTTwo Great Groups, the music of Noah Earle and ShannieMonday, March 22nd, the Unstoppable Frankie Picasso and co host Wendy Allyn greet two great bands. His musical involvement began in early childhood when he would listen to the traditional country and country-gospel music that his family would play and sing at their gatherings. Between the ages of about 5 and 18 he underwent classical training for piano, voice and fiddle (his grandpa said "never let anybody call it a violin").he was also exposed to blues and jazz by his dad and uncle, both of whom performed in a number of bands. Noah has emerged as a formidable solo artist, Others have been quick to recognize Earle's talent. In 2006 he won the solo category of the Kansas City Blues Challenge and was a finalist in the International Blues Competition in Memphis. MICHAEL DOUGLAS BRAY- Mike grew up with solid roots and a steady diet of music when at the age of eight watching his dad and his brother Don sitting on their back porch and playing songs on his uncle’s guitar. Mike jumped at the chance to study the craft of writing, some of which included private script-writing lessons with is cousin Beth Sullivan. His first album, “Lonely at the Stop” is available now and his second album will be out soon “Cut Me Down to Size”. He will soon be recording his third album “Maintaining the Illusion”. David Beaudry- David Beaudry was born in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles. Having been raised by his mother whose descendants trace back to George Fox, the founding member of the 17th century Quakers, David learned the ways of the ways of a “Peaceful Warrior”. But at some point, he turned from those ideas and began mixing with the wrong crowd and went on to help form one of the most notorious gangs in Northeast L.A. It was this activity, along with a growing heroin addiction, that landed David in the California Youth Authority (youth prison) at the age of 13. It was here where he wrote his first song. David has long turned from the destructive behavior and through his music and a strong, intuitive sense of his own blend of spirituality; he now uses his music and life experiences to help others. David has written songs for B.M.G. and a few other publishers. In 2008, one of his songs "Kingdom Come" was used on HD net T.V. and later that year, his song "Outlaw Trail Concert" was used in a PBS broadcast about Jesse James and was performed by the band Confederate Railroad. His album “Alien Man” highlights some of the very best in original, melodic and story-driven songs. 01:00:00Frankie & Johnnynomichael douglas bray, david beaudry, folk music, unstoppable Frankie Picasso and Wendy Allyn, frankie and johnny music hourPlease join Frankie Picasso and her co-host Wendy Allyn as we stroll along the west coast and do a little California Dreaming with two singer-songwriters who caHEY FATHEAD! You guys play Great BluesThe Unstoppable Frankie Picasso welcomes FATHEAD's band leader Al Lerman to the stage on the next Frankie and Johnny Music Hour this Monday, March 8th at 8:00 pm est. It's been a long but steady climb since FATHEAD's debut gig in 1992, and the band has been tearing it up on the North American festival circuit ever since - winning over new fans every time they play - making FATHEAD one of the country's top roots acts. Signed to the world renowned ELECTRO-FI RECORDS' imprint, the band has won two JUNO AWARDS (Canada's "GRAMMY") for "Blues Recording Of The Year". Their latest release is called "WHERE'S THE BLUES TAKING ME", (available February 2010). That they have been described as a Blues Tour De Force comes as no surprise. Georgia-raised lead singer JOHN MAYS has had a storied career that began in the Southern gospel tradition, crossing over into Doo-Wop, R&B and Blues, not to mention a stint with the Godfather Of Soul JAMES BROWN. Hooking up with band leader AL LERMAN (harp and saxophone) in Toronto some years later, FATHEAD's core has remained constant since forming; offering ace musicianship, soul stirring harmonies and incendiary live performances. The writing tandem of Lerman and bassist OMAR TUNNOCH has produced a large body of work that has enjoyed time on the US, European and Canadian music charts. Guitar ace TEDDY LEONARD and iconic drummer BUCKY BERGER round out FATHEAD's sound, infusing elements of funk, soul, and R&B into their strong blues backbone. FATHEAD is truly an original band with a sound immediately recognizable as their own. The lifestyle took its toll on his soul. Burned out by the mid-’80s, Brooks took stock of his life, checked into rehab, and reemerged a changed man. We have a new regular joining us for a few minutes of fun every week. Tune in to find out who our mystery guest is! This week Canada's Down home favorite Dave Gunning joins the stage on the Frankie and Johnny Music Show this week. Dave who is from Pictou County, Nova Scotia is famous for his many talents but the one I find most intriguing is that Dave has proven he can find a song just about anywhere--in childhood memories, local legends and the everyday lives of those around him--and turn it into something profound, honest and deeply moving. Dave has a beautiful smoothe voice, like velvet and a humbleness that is as refreshing as it is endearing. Since his debut in 1997 with Lost Tracks, Dave’s ability to tell a story in song has resulted in six Music Nova Scotia Awards and three East Coast Music Awards (2008 Folk Recording, Male Artist of the Year for House For Sale, 2005 Folk Recording, Two-Bit World), rousing welcomes from crowds at festivals and venues on both sides of the Atlantic and the admiration of Canada's finest composers, a number of whom have become collaborators on We're All Leaving. His recent collaboration, House for Sale's Hard Workin’ Hands with master Newfoundland’s song craftsman Ron Hynes, was named First Place Winner in the folk category in the 2008 Indie International Songwriting Contest and was honored as a Finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition and the John Lennon Song Contest. His song, Cowboy’s Dream co-written with Canadian country star George Canyon was also honored as a Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Come on out for a Down Home Christmas with Dave Gunning.. we will be playing his famous, popular original holiday favorite Daddy’s Beer, which has become a holiday hit with fans and country radio programmers. 01:00:00Frankie & Johnnynodave gunning, daddys beer, songwriter, unstoppable frankie picasso and johnny collin, frankie and johnny music hourA BIG SURPRISE on the Frankie and Johnny Music Hour this week. Truth on Earth is our guest tonight and I would say that they are the evolution of folk singers. The band consists of Serena, Kiley and Tess and using the beliefs of Gandhi, (who proved the best path to peace was through truth and non-violent protest), T.O.E. is a progressive social action rock group writing and performing songs about world problems that need attention and sustainable solutions. Their songs are about the problems and solutions for some of the worlds biggest challenges - starvation, child abuse, effects of war, environment, homelessness, cyberbullying, substance abuse, factory farming and depression. They donate 70% of their profits to the causes that support topics they sing about. Joining them also is special guest Greg Halpern, their manager, father, social activist and the man who was inspired to capture the magic and sound of Pink Floyd and make his sequel to their uber successful Dark Side of the Moon, his being titled, Dim Side of Mars.01:00:00Frankie & Johnnynogreg halpern, soact, truth on earth, john collin, unstoppable frankie picassoTruth on Earth with special guest star Greg Halpern of Dim Side of Mars, joins the Unstoppable Frankie Picasso and Johnny 'Footloose' Collin for another greatMusician Photographer Kevan Christine and Friends.http://www.blogtalkradio.com/frankie--johnny/2009/11/10/musician-photographer-kevan-christine-and-friendsMusichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/frankie--johnny/2009/11/10/musician-photographer-kevan-christine-and-friends/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/frankie--johnny/2009/11/10/musician-photographer-kevan-christine-and-friendsTue, 10 Nov 2009 01:00:00 GMTMusician Photographer Kevan Christine and Friends.Kevan Christine sees things differently than other folks, especially from behind the lense of her camera. As a profesional photographer Kevan decided early on to focus on Musicians. Tonight we will speak with Kevan about her project as well as listen and speak to 2 of 19 musicians she focused on for Volume 1 of her Musicians Volume 1 book. Heather Fay and Patrick Duncan who are featured artists in the book will also join us live tonight. While each of the artists involved play a wide variety of genres, their shared commonality is the fact that music is life and without it there would be no purpose.01:00:00Frankie & Johnnynokevan christine photography,Patrick Dunn,Heather Fay,john collin drumming, unstoppable frankie picassoKevan Christine sees things differently than other folks, especially from behind the lense of her camera. Croce...The Man and his MusicDavid Wild of Rolling Stone considers Adrian James Croce to be “one of our greatest young songwriters” and in singing, songwriting, and musicianship, A.J. delivers the goods. I happen to agree. His Music is as eclectic as the man and is an undefinable mix of jazz, blues, pop, funk and something that is pure A.J. The son of Jim Croce, A.J. may have inherited his father's musical talent, but his style and sound are all his own. He has shared the stage with the likes of Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Santana, Willie Nelson, Dave Mathews, Ben Harper, Lyle Lovett, Rod Stewart, Morphine, B.B. King, recorded with folks like David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Ry Cooder, Can, Robben Ford,Waddy Wachtel and jazz legend Ron Carter and has appeared on Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, Austin City Limits, Good Morning America, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and much more.
