Club Med Cancun Yucatan

Club Med Cancun Yucatan has recently completed one of their most ambitious transformations in history.

As you are aware, most of the hotels and resorts in Cancun were severely damaged by Hurricane Wilma. Club Med pumped more than $20 million in renovations into the village and it has been fully refurbished.

Documentation
Current Requirements for Getting Into Mexico: The Government of Mexico requires all U.S. citizens to present proof of citizenship and photo identification for entry into Mexico. However, U.S. citizens have encountered difficulty in boarding flights in Mexico without a U.S. Passport. The U.S. Embassy recommends traveling with a valid U.S. passport to avoid delays or misunderstandings. However, U.S. citizenship documents such as a certified copy (not a simple photocopy) of a U.S. birth certificate, a Naturalization Certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Citizenship are acceptable. U.S. citizens boarding flights to Mexico should be prepared to present one of these documents as proof of U.S. citizenship, along with photo identification. Driver's permits, voter registration cards, affidavits and similar documents are not sufficient to prove citizenship for readmission into the United States.

Cancun Airport
Cancun Airport International (CUN) is one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean and the point of entry to the "Mundo Maya". Every year millions of people visit Cancun and the Riviera Maya and the number of visitors is expected to increase rapidly thanks to the new mega-resorts already in construction all over the area.

Major international airlines as well as charter airlines have direct or connecting flights to Cancun every day. Now more than ever Cancun Airport International is easily accessible from almost every major city in the world. With first class shops, restaurants and services, Cancun Airport is one of the easiest most convenient airports to fly to/from in Mexico.

Clearing Customs and Immigrations is a breeze but once you get outside of the main terminal it can be a bit overwhelming by the number of transfer services and "meet and greet" representatives waiting to whisk you off to your hotel. Make sure you know where you will be picked up and by whom. On another note, arrive at the airport no later than 2.5 hours before your departure.

Transfer
Cancun Airport is located approximately 12 miles from the village. My transfer time from the airport took approximately 15 minutes and the village is the first stop on the hotel zone. Please note that most shuttle services offer the same price for a one-way or round-trip transfer no matter which hotel you are staying at in Cancun. One-way transfers start at $30 USD.

The Village
This was my first trip to a Club Med property and I enjoyed the professional yet laid-back atmosphere of this all-inclusive village. Although some of the GO's (Gentile Organizers) were a bit "green", they were attentive and courteous. My guestroom was spacious, clean and comfortable and had plenty of amenities. The Jade Villa is a luxury concierge building that has room service, ocean view suites and upgraded amenities packages. The food was both pleasing to the eye as well as the palate and social beverages were top-shelf. There are plenty of water activities...snorkeling, wave runners, windsurfing and wake boarding just to name a few. Two of the more popular land activities are the flying trapeze and tennis.

Final Thoughts
Club Med Cancun Yucatan is situated on the most prime piece of real estate in the hotel zone. It is an exclusive setting that is both tranquil and secluded. Its location and natural amenities have no rival.

No longer an adult-only resort, Club Med made the right decision by targeting families and this village raises the bar in the evolution of Club Med's upscale and family vacations. This village also has the potential to attract group business to include team-building and small incentive programs.

Whether you are planning a family vacation, group or incentive program, Club Med Cancun Yucatan is worthy of your consideration.
