The Offering’s Directors Series: Cult Underground Horror Films with Thrust Director Victor Bonacore | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:30:06

Directors Series: Cult Underground Horror Films with Director Victor Bonacore (Thrust, Diary of a Deadbeat: The Story of Jim Vanbebber) "Thrust is the best Troma Movie never made!" - Jerry Horror host of The Offering A lot has been said about cult films, especially in the last 5 to 10 years. What is the definition of cult film? What is the definition of underground film? I grew up in an era where there were VHS tapes, DVDs and you had to work hard to find it. There was no swipe left or swipe right if you wanted to watch Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive" or "Meet the Feebles". I got bootlegs of John Woo movies through tape and DVD trading. Before there was Pirate Bay, you would have to go to horror conventions and meet up with other collectors. My exposure to what you would call cult or underground films was networking with a lot of like-minded people. As a film fan now, I have access to everything at my fingertips. Do I want to watch John Waters? I can easily download his entire filmography with a streaming subscription. What is it like nowadays to be a cult or underground filmmaker? With cult or underground films - you're coloring outside the lines and that's why it can't be a studio product. In this episode of The Offering's Directors Series, we have guest director Victor Bonacore talking about his latest release "Thrust" starring Erin Brown and Linnea Quigley, as we have an in-depth discussion about what it takes to produce and complete an underground, do-it-yourself, independently financed feature length movie.  The Film That Almost Made David Fincher Quit Directing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:10:04

The director of this film has completely disowned it and to this day refuses to talk about it. Filming had begun even though the script wasn’t finished. A studio that wanted a big Hollywood Summer blockbuster, but got a grimy, grounded horror film instead. Within it’s franchise, it is the most controversial entry amongst fans. There was even a cartoon spin-off pilot for this movie. What went wrong? James Cameron considered this film “a slap in the face”. The lead actor begged that their character be killed off. The tag-line for this film was: The bitch is back. Leave a Review Apple Podcast Spotify @JerryHorror on Instagram & Twitter The Offering with Jerry Horror Merch Here

The People of New York City Versus William Friedkin | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:40

The director of The Exorcist and the star of The Godfather teamed up for this unconventional film that was more Slasher Movie than Alfred Hitchcock. Originally Rated Triple X, it didn’t look like this film was coming to cinemas any time soon. This movie was heavily protested due to it’s depiction of the Gay Community. Theaters were not willing to show this film due to it’s dark and perverse nature. This is the curious case of a Gay Slasher that rocked the nation.  The Worst Horror Sequel of All-Time? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:09:29

How do you make a sequel to one of the most profitable and iconic horror films of all-time? The original director didn’t return to this film because he thought the script (and I quote) “sucked!” Speaking of which, the script was written no less than five times. And even then it was being re-written as they shot the film. The star of this film had to read cue cards because he showed up every day completely drunk. To this day, it is one of the most critically panned horror movies ever made. The premiere screening of this film was so disastrous that it almost incited a riot amongst the audience. Strangely enough, both Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino love this sequel. Leave a Review Apple Podcast Spotify @JerryHorror on Instagram & Twitter The Offering with Jerry Horror Merch Here

Wait, Tim Burton Directed This? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:18:01

An Oscar winning franchise that burned in development hell for over two decades. At one point, Ridley Scott and Arnold Schwarzenegger both dropped out of this movie in the late 90s. An unconventional star and director that were paired together to rebirth this franchise. This movie was a gigantic blockbuster hit and it made a ton of money, but there was never a sequel. This week on The Offering, take your stinking paws off of me you damn dirty ape! Leave a Review Apple Podcast Spotify @JerryHorror on Instagram & Twitter The Offering with Jerry Horror Merch Here

In 1980, the cocaine-fueled hangover had hit everyone hard, especially Hollywood. This film was shaping up to be a Summer blockbuster, that is until the lead star dropped out.  Nothing Can Save You From the Dark Universe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:34

An aging Gen X icon who couldn’t resist the lure of controlling a new and very lucrative franchise. A studio who was looking to the past to reinvent classic characters. Budgets grew and so did egos. The production itself was an absolute disaster. At one point, the studio didn’t even think it would be releasable. Take a journey back with me to the time when everyone was trying to build their own universe like the MCU. Except this time, it didn’t work out. This is the story of the birth and the death of The Dark Universe. Leave a Review Apple Podcast Spotify @JerryHorror on Instagram & Twitter The Offering with Jerry Horror Merch Here

The Real Reason Disney Bought Star Wars and Marvel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:28:38

Let me take you back to a time before Disney owned Star Wars or Marvel. When they were trying to develop their own intellectual properties. With gargantuan hits like Pirates of the Caribean and Tron: Legacy, the studio felt like they couldn’t lose. A director who made some of the most important films of the early 2000s had now put his entire career on the line. They were ready to change the world, that was until Avatar beat them to the punch. This is the unfortunate story of a film that I truly believe is cursed. Leave a Review Apple Podcast Spotify @JerryHorror on Instagram & Twitter The Offering with Jerry Horror Merch Here

Originally, this film was written as an R-rated blood bath, but for some reason the studio wanted a PG-13 family friendly summer blockbuster.  Sly Stallone’s Attempt to Topple Top Gun | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:14:00

He was the biggest box office star of 1985. This actor was given a blank check to make any movie he dreamed of. Studios were fighting and feuding to get him on their roster. This actor would garner a reputation of being “tough to work with” after dropping out of Beverly Hills Cop. This is a story about ego, hubris, and the movie that went head-to-head against Top Gun.
