To usher in the glorious Halloween season, I've decided to talk about one of my favorite films with one of my frightfully fiendish friends...DANDY DARKLY! So DeeDee (as I love to call him behind his back, because he'd probably floss me to death for saying it) and I sat down to discuss the 1979 deliriously delicious cult classic, TOURIST TRAP. Be sure to pack your tube top before you embark on this weekend jaunt full of fun, laughs (mostly mannequins), songs (again, mostly mannequins), skinny dipping, plaster facials, telekinetic treachery and, of course...crackers. And mannequins. Did I mention mannequins?
Tonight's main feature is an independent movie called ABSENCE. I'm starting to get leads from PR firms for movies to review and folks to interview. This was one of them. Well, even if it's true that bad publicity is good publicity, they should be thrilled with my review. Sadly, this week's episode was cut short due to family emergency, so it's not what I intended. Please keep calm and slap Bradford.
It's that time of year again. That special day has finally popped up on the calender again which can only mean one thing. It's time for another FRIDAY THE 13th SPECTACULARRRRR! It's FRIDAY THE 13th PART 6: JASON LIVES, and if this movie doesn't teach you to stay out of the woods, then I hope it teaches a VALUABLE FASHION LESSON!
I'm still in an awful tizzy producing my first audiobook, but I still wanted to get an episode out to you on time. So, it's another trip back in time to the Golden Age of Radio with THE MYSTERIOUS TRAVELER MAURICE TARPLIN played the title role in this anthology series: a strange person awaiting you in your train car with endless tales of the strange and bizarre. Tonight's little tale is "The Good Die Young". It features one of my favorite horror tropes. Evil little girls. Enjoy!
The main feature this week is a short but sweet, spoiler-free review for the upcoming release, YOU'RE NEXT. Since it's not even remotely in release yet, all details will be kept secret. You may listen without fear. However, you'd better be afraid of the triple CRAPSHOOT helping of direct-to-video awful offal from Great Britain: HOLLOW, TRUTH OR DIE and STORAGE 24 Seriously, these flicks are worse than Spotted Dick...and I don't mean the pudding.
A spoiler-free mini-review of the upcoming feature YOU'RE NEXT. Plus, three British CRAPSHOOT movies that are even worse than Spotted Dick...and I don't mean the pudding.
It's the Third Anniversary of the show, so I've planned a very special party...a MURDER PARTY! Listener JULIE suggested I watch MURDER PARTY (2007), so it's time for her to finally face the FIRING SQUAD. I've brought along two friends. One's nearly brain dead. The other one has a mouth like a Staten Island landfill. I'll leave it to you to figure out which one is which... In a last minute moment of inspiration, I manage to get an interview with super-cool actor/musician and star of the movie, STACY ROCK. Plus, spoiler-free mini reviews of THE CONJURING and V/H/S 2. Hey, if it's my anniversary, why are YOU getting all the goodies?!?!
Climb on board for the final stop on our DEADLY VACATIONS tour. Three giggling gays bumble their way through a discussion of AGATHA CHRISTIE's classic EVIL UNDER THE SUN, so hold onto your polka dots. Pour yourselves a "Between the Sheets". Better yet, make it a double, because all is not "Tickety Boo."
No-frills episode this time However, you're getting what many consider to be "the scariest episode ever" from the entire Golden Age of Radio!
What happens when three carefree gals run afoul of some very unstable hunters? BLACK ROCK! What happens when your idiot son leaves the door open on the deadly night of the year? THE PURGE! What happens when Patrick records Part One of his DEADLY VACATIONS special? PARTY IN YOUR EARHOLES! Vacations gone so wrong that they almost make you forget the time you peed yourself on "It's a Small World"!!! Well...almost. Additional Music: "Vacation" - Sloppy Seconds, "Holiday Road" - Lindsey Buckingham, "Leavin' on a Jet Plane" - Me First and the Gimme Gimme's
It's PROM SEASON, so this episode is dedicated to that time-honored rit du passage signalling the end of childhood, the last blast before adulthood and very possibly being eaten by zombies! First up, it a special look at ZOMBIE PROM, a charming Off-Broadway musical from 1996. We're also very fortunate to have a chat with the show's composer, DANA P. ROWE. (He's a super sweet guy, but even he wasn't expecting the little bit of his horror movie history that I unearthed, because I'm a savant like that!) Since I know at this point you're all itching for less singin' and dancing and more brain munchin', I'm covering an actual zombie prom with actual zombie carnage....DANCE OF THE DEAD (2008)! And to really give it that authentic feel, I invited my actual date from both my junior and senior proms to watch it with me: still kinda willowy after all these years - GEORGEANN STRAKOSCH And just to complete the horror associated with looking back on his high school night of night....here's our prom picture. Oh, the horror! The horror! *************************************************************** Visit DANA P. ROWE's website to learn more about current projects. Pick up the ZOMBIE PROM Original Cast Recording at Amazon. *************************************************************** Additional Music: "Shake your Body" by PAT AND MIKE, "Shadows of the Night" by LAYTON, "Bizarre Love Triangle" by STABBING WESTWARD
"You call THAT a tiara!?! DIE!" It's my birthday. It's MISTER BRAD's birthday. We had cocktails. We reviewed a movie. It's not pretty. I mean, the movie's a hoot. WE are not pretty. And by that I mean, we ARE pretty. Our recording is not pretty. Actually, it is pretty. Pretty drunk.
In this week's very special episode, I'll be reading INCIDENT AT BOWLING BALL TREE, an original short story written by Drunken Zombie's BRYAN "Blumpkin King" WOLFORD. It's a nostalgic little tale about the bygone summer days of youth, filled with baseball games, swimmin' holes, and really, really pissed off wolves. Really, do I need to say anything else? I thought not. Dandy Darkly tells the tale of "Captain Chad and the Mermaid" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlQFQo2X7SE Special thanks to Peder Bjærum Helland for his original instrumental music for the story. Check out his YouTube Channel with more of his compositions HERE. Additional Music: "The Werewolf" by Barry Dransfeild
For the first time ever, I have a special guest to help me with THE CRAPSHOOT! It's the super-huggable co-host of the BLOODY GOOD HORROR podcast, CASEY CRISWELL! He's helping me determine the worth of THE DEVIL'S ROCK - the "Nazis vs. Demons" extravaganza with some controversial box art. Also, I give you some spoiler-free sneak peeks at the EVIL DEAD remake, and the Ireland's own Killer Klown, STITCHES. Plus, I survived my high school reunion...and I'll teach you how you can too! Additional music: "Rock Me Like the Devil" by CRUCIFIED BARBARA, "Falling to Pieces" by FAITH NO MORE
The Laryngitis Monster has struck again! Unfortunately that means a short episode. Fortunately that means I get to share with you a terrifying treat of a Not-So-Old Time Radio show called NIGHTFALL. NIGHTFALL terrorized the Canadian airwaves from 1980-1983, and the result is a disco-licious chiller of an episode called Angel's Kiss. It's one hell of a cocktail! Literally!
