 Death Machine (1994) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:50:14

Doug and Coker return with another Slashers Smoke Break episode, by popular demand! To get an early start on [Fe]Bruary, they are doing Death Machine. What is [Fe]Bruary? It's a celebration of killer robots (and Fe is iron on the periodic table of elements).  Written and directed by Stephen Norrington, the film stars icons, Brad Dourif and Richard Brake. Norrington, previously worked as a special effects artist on films such as Lifeforce, Aliens, Hardware, The Witches, and Split Second. He also allegedly punched Sean Connery.  The guys also talk about Mark Rosman's 1995 film, Evolver. . . then of course Doug brings up Short Circuit 2 (RIGHTFULLY, BECAUSE IT IS THE STUFF OF LEGEND).  This week If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Our Ode to Betty White: Lake Placid and all things Golden | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:54:32

Happy Birthday to the amazing, iconic powerhouse that was Betty White.  This whole episode is dedicated to her; and is also the first of many Slashers Podcast subsidiaries, Call Your Ghoulfriends, featuring Ade and her boo boo, Mikey.  This episode also dives into more JanuSCARY topics such as horror novels, specifically Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell, a few comments about your favorite horror author, Stephen King, why Mikey and Ade are obsessed with Kevin Bacon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Bill Pullman; but the majority of the time we actually discuss the untouched beauty of 1999's Lake Placid. Lake Placid is a classic creature feature, and let's face it, Betty White makes it 1000x more loveable. It's also written by David E. Kelley and directed by Steve Miner (also starring Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Brendan Gleeson, Meredith Salenger and Oliver Platt). Don't forget to donate to your local animal shelter this month in Betty White's name. The woman left a legacy and I will continue to live out my days to make her proud. We love you, Betty!!!! Slashers Smoke Break presents several topics this week on our JanuSCARY episode!  Doug and Coker go through movies that scared them shitless as children, video games that wrecked their lives, and arcade robots that still haunt Coker to this day. The guys also go through their top 2021 horror films this year with a few comments on Malignant, Halloween Kills, and Squid Game!  Finally, they touch on some awesome finds (extreme horror and Gwar films) they came across this year, as well.  Scary Movies from Our Childhood & Akira Toriyama's Monster Squad | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:25

Happy New Years, Goons!  Our first episode of Slashers Podcast kicks off with a JanuSCARY theme, wherein the hosts this week bring their own topic and we rant and rave about said topic. This week, Jake's topic is either Monster Squad Z or Dragon Squad, depending on which you like best (be sure to email us and let us know your thoughts at slasherspod@gmail.com).  That's right, Jake is discussing Akira Toryiama's Dragon Ball, more specifically, the Fortune Teller Baba tournament that includes characters that resemble Dracula, Invisible Man, The Mummy, The Devil, and a ghost. He also casts the remaining Universal Monsters/ Monster Squad characters with other species and people from the Dragon Ball universe.  Ade's topic includes films that scared her as a child and films that scared her as an adult. In addition, find out why we dubbed this the "shit" episode, and see if you can count how many times fecal matter is subconsciously brought up. Without giving too much away, some of these films include an extra terrestrial, a devil baby and an evil entity.  If you're liking this month's format, don't forget to message us and let us know what you liked, what you hated, and more importantly, what you'd like to hear and maybe, just maybe, we'll mention it on another episode! Also, don't forget to order any of our new designs from slasherspod.redbubble.com! We have everything from stickers, travel mugs, clocks, notebooks, hats and t-shirts.  30 Days of Night | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:27

Hope ya'll had a great holiday but December is not over yet here on our Slashing through the Snow month of Slashers Podcast.  This week, Jake, Doug, and Coker are left unsupervised to cover the early 2000's vampire horror flick 30 Days of Night.  The film stars, Josh Hartnett (The Faculty, Halloween H20, Penny Dreadful) , Melissa George (Amityville Horror remake, Turistas), Danny Huston (Anjelica Huston's brother, also starred in X-Men Origins: Wolvering, Succession, Yellowstone), Mark Boone Junior (Sons of Anarchy) and the ever-amazing Ben Foster (Alpha Dog, Hell or High Water, 3:10 to Yuma).   We bet ya didn't know that the film is actually produced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell, Spiderman 2002) and Robert Tapert (Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, The Grudge) and was released in 2007.  It seems to have gotten lost under all the splendor of other 2007 horror such as Dead Silence, 1408, Trick r Treat, but is compared to the nihilistic survival horror flicks such as The Hills Have Eyes remake, High Tension, The Mist, Feast and The Descent.  Find out what the guys loved about this one, as well as what they hated, with a special quick blurb from Ade who could not make it to recording. There are a lot of ooey, gooey, gross extras thrown in so you'll definitely wanna give this one a listen! Also, don't forget to order any of our new designs from slasherspod.redbubble.com!  Two-Sentence Horror | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:12:20

In a break from the snowy theme for the month, Slashing Through the Snow, the hosts have decided to dive into Reddit for some Two-Sentence Horror.  Jake sorted the subreddit by the highest upvoted submissions of all time, then he and Ade created movie pitches for each. Most include the film title, actors, and directors. Some even get fancy subtitles. Please vote on your favorite pitches and Jake will create a movie poster for the winner.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Winterbeast (1992) - A Slashers Smoke Break Special | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:54:06

Slashing through the Snow this month on Slashers Podcast means movies with SNOW.  Unfortunately, snow is not present in Winterbeast, as Doug and Coker mention, however, it does deliver on camp and gore.  Listen in and find out why this movie is compared with the likes of Evil Dead!  Winterbeast was released in 1992 and has some interesting history behind it, and is about a small New England town being ravaged by possessed totem poles! It is a directed by Christopher Thies and stars Tim R. Morgan, Mike Magri and Charles Majka.   This episode is special and unique, as it is dubbed "Slashers Smoke Break," with our Doug and Coker at the helm. While they discuss the film and production behind it, they veer off into side rants; find out how Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller play into this, why Highway to Hell is an underrated classic, and what Doug and Coker miss about the 90s; a decade founded on AOL and dial up internet. Hopefully this gets you in the holiday spirit, as holiday horror is always a good time!  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Stephen King's Misery (1990) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:13:14

Welcome to Slashers Podcast's month of December, "Slashing through the Snow," where we discuss titles that take place in zero degree weather and mountains of fresh powder (snow, that is, not the other stuff). Considering that guys reside in California and Ade's all the way in Florida, it's not like any of us get to enjoy it unless we literally plan a vaca around it; so this is the next best thing! This week, Jake and Ade talk a Stephen King favorite, Misery, directed by All in the Family's Rob Reiner, and stars Kathy Bates as the terrifying Annie Wilkes; James Caan as Paul Sheldon; and the lovely Lauren Bacall as Marcia Sindell; as well as Richard Farnsworth and Frances Sternhagen as the fun-loving, snarky married couple Buster and Virginia, respectively.  If you've lived under a rock, buried in the snow, or literally just born, Misery is about a famous writer who has a car accident in the middle of nowhere and is rescued by Annie, who is a nurse, but we soon learn is severely unhinged. Jake is also able to clarify and expand on a lot of content because he's actually read the novel! Heaven's to Betsy, this is one of our favorite works by Stephen King; let us know which novel adaptation tickles your fancy by commenting or sending us an email! We also talk about some celebrity and political gossip, which of us owns a Dutch oven, and which of Annie's fun little sayings in lieu of profanity is our favorite. Bonus, find out which of us is a funky-faced butt boy/girl!  So don't be a cock-a-doody, listen in and let us know your thoughts!!   Also, don't forget that we are in the midst of Hanukkah and Christmas is right around the corner, so be sure to order any of our new designs from slasherspod.redbubble.com! We have everything from stickers, travel mugs, clocks, notebooks, hats and t-shirts.  Thanksgorging Week 5 - The Silence of the Lambs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:09:37

Happy Cyber Monday, Goons!!! This last week of November, Jake and Ade go through The Silence of the Lambs, directed by Jonathan Demme and adapted from Thomas Harris' novel of the same name (screenplay by Ted Tally--who also adapted Red Dragon!). We chose this one for its gorging/cannibalism by Dr. Hannibal Lecter, but also because it is truly a cinematic masterpiece. From its score by Howard Shore (Scanners, Se7en,  Videodrome, The Fly, Big, etc...), to the incredible acting chops of Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Lecter, Ted Levine as the titular Buffalo Bill, and the subtle nuanced delivery of Clarice Starling's character played by the amazing Jodie Foster, it is genuinely a captivating film that just so happens to cross multiple genres.  Find out why we think Dr. Lecter is such a fascinating, principled villain, in comparison to the likes of Dr. Doom and Magneto; why we believe Clarice Starling is more than just an object; and find out about all of the fun cameos by George A. Romero, Chris Isaak and Roger Corman, among many others.  In addition, we have several new designs available on our Redbubble at slasherspod.redbubble.com, please be sure to check them out and use Cyber5 for a discount.  Stick around for next month with our December theme!  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Thanksgorging Week 4 - La Grande Bouffe (The Big Feast 1973) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:36:16

Firstly, we just want to wish all our amazing Mutant Goons From Beyond a happy and safe Thanksgiving!!!  Since it's the week of feasting, what better way to close out this month than with Doug and Coker's episode on the 1973 French Film La Grande Bouffe, or The Big Feast.  This one focuses on a group of men who travel to a home in the French countryside where they decide they will eat themselves to death.  Of course, this wouldn't just go down as simply as that, as there is sex, hookers, and plenty of bathroom trauma that will probably make you gag than gorge while you view it. La Grande Bouffe stars Marcello Mastroianni, Michel Piccoli and Philippe Noiret and is directed by Marco Ferreri.  This one is actually streaming right now on Tubi, so if you want to get into the holiday spirit, both Doug and Coker highly recommend.  In addition, we'll have several new designs available on our Redbubble at slasherspod.redbubble.com, so be sure to check them out this weekend after you've gorged yourselves on your favorite Thanksgiving staples.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Thanksgorging Week 3 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 (1986) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:52

This week for Thanksgorging, we feature a film with what is inarguably Jake's favorite horror movie poster of all time: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2! For those of you wonderying why we didn't review the first, the answer is twofold: 1) every podcast has done an episode on it; 2) we put it behind a damn paywall. #shamelessplugforourmiddlingpatreon This film, like the original, was directed by Tobe Hooper. It was written by someone named L. M. Kit Carson, who kinda just fell into obscurity thereafter. Remember a day when a box office flop would end your carrer, but then people like Uwe Boll kept getting movies made? Yeesh.  TCM2 brings back the old favorite and introduces Bill Moseley's iconic Chop Top to the Sawyer clan. Bill Johnson takes over for Leatherface after the makers could not come to terms with Gunnar Hanson on a return.  We talk about the deleted scenes, one of which involves the Patron Saint of Slashers, Joe Bob Briggs.  We also talk about the long-languishing All American Massacre, which was directed by Hooper's son, William, but has yet to see the light of day.  Did you know that this soundtrack features the like of Oingo Boingo, The Cramps, and Stewart Copeland (of The Police and the guy who did the damn music for Spyro the Dragon).  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Thanksgorging Week 2 - The Stuff (1985) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:16:06

Happy Week 2 of our Thanksgorging month here on Slashers Podcast.  We’re continuing our theme of nasty gorging with Larry Cohen’s The Stuff (1985).  You know Larry Cohen from movies like It’s Alive, Phone Booth and Cellular, amongst many others. The film stars Michael Moriarty as Mo, because he always wants “Mo” money, as well as Paul Sorvino, Danny Aiello--of all people-- Andrea Marcovicci and Scott Bloom. The best character of the film, as all of us agree on, is Chocolate Chip Charlie played by Garrett Morris, which all you fans will recognize from 2 Broke Girls. We also put this movie up against others as far as its effectiveness. Is The Stuff more effective than The Blob, Children of the Corn, Phantoms and They Live? If you thought this was just a straight up horror film, you’d be surprised, as all 3 Goons discuss how this movie ties in several different genres with some awesome practical effects and some not so wonderful shitty effects.  Love it or hate it, it’s perfect for this month because it deals with this caulk-looking substance that comes from the ground and causes its eaters to become severely addicted. Listen in and find out what it does to their insides. Gotta love the goop. And an added bonus, find out which goon picks up a hitchhiker and lives to tell about it!  Thanksgorging Week 1 - Near Dark | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:49:41

Welcome Mutant Goons to our first week of Thanksgorging here on Slashers Podcast!  This week Doug and Ade dive into Kathryn Bigelow's debut film Near Dark (1987).  This film stars the amazing Bill Paxton, Lance Henrikson, and Jenette Goldstein, whom you may remember starred together in a little James Cameron film, Aliens.  Cameron suggested that Bigelow throw in his actors for good measure, and boom, we have a vampire horror western which Doug finds reminiscent of Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects.  The film also stars 80s favorite, Jenny Wright as Mae, the seductive vampiress, and Jason Patric's little brother Joshua John Miller as Homer.  You may know Miller from his horror comedy The Final Girls, as he is now all grown up and no longer a creepy little vamp. Find out why we feel this film is unfairly compared with The Lost Boys, that, while totally butt-fucking awesome, is a completely different film both atmospherically and tonally. In addition, we discuss which vampires we'd like to be if they were real: Twilight vamps, Underworld vamps, Fright Night Vamps, From Dusk Till Dawn Vamps, Interview with the Vampire vamps, the list is endless!  If you could be immortal, which would you choose?  Give us a shout and let us know why on any of our platforms. We hope you enjoy this month, our theme is basically choosing horror that showcase nasty eats--and what better way to kick it off than with one of the most badass vampire Westerns ever?  We also end the show with questions from our Much Ado About Nerding buddies, Joe and Sally.  Be sure to check them out anywhere you listen to podcasts, as well as Instagram @much_ado_about_nerding and Patreon.com/muchadoaboutnerding; and nerdnation2020@gmail.com If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,   please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
