 The Burning - 1981 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:17

Hey goons and happy Monday as Slashers Podcast continues this month of August with part 2 of our Wet Hot Slashers Summer. Today Jake, Doug, Jason and Ade dissect the garden shear slasher flick, The Burning. Written by Bob Weinstein and Peter Lawrence, and produced by the scum-sucking brother whose name need not be mentioned, the film follows a summer camp caretaker who is horribly burnt by a prank gone wrong, who then seeks revenge at the summer camp years later.  The film was released in May of 1981 and stars Brian Matthews, Leah Ayres, Lou David, Jason Alexander, Holly Hunter and Fisher Stevens. While there are a ton of things wrong with this slasher flick, it is unique in the kills that Tom Savini cooks up, and does have some appeal. Would it make for a good remake if we take out all of the problems and keep practical effects?  Let us know your thoughts! This is streaming on Tubi so if you haven’t watched, we highly recommend it. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Grindhouse - Death Proof and Planet Terror | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:23:53

Welcome to another Monday and another new episode of Slashers Podcast!  Micah joins Ade for this episode to discuss GRINDHOUSE. Join them to learn the ins and outs of Grindhouse/ exploitation films, as well as their thoughts on the amazing Grindhouse double feature of 2007.  If you recall, the films include Death Proof, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction)  and stars Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Jordan Ladd, Vanessa Ferlito, Kurt Russell, Rose McGowan, Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eli Roth and the badass stuntwoman herself, Zoe Bell (who you may know as Uma Thurman's stunt double from Kill Bill); as well as the balls to the wall Planet Terror, written and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and stars Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Marley Shelton, Tom Savini, Josh Brolin, Michael Beihn, Bruce Willis, Naveen Andrews, Fergie, Jeff Fahey and Micah's all time favorite person, Michael Parks.   Find out Ade and Micah's favorite Grindhouse film, find out what they both looked like in the early 2000s, and why you need to view Mad Ron's Prevues from Hell on Netflix to find more gritty, gory, and nasty grindhouse classics.   This week’s Hidden Track is Stainless Static by Dancing With Ghosts. They are an alternative electronic rock  band hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, not too far from Ade’s neck of the woods. One of their vocalists, Josh, also hosts his own podcast, Uncovering Unexplained Mysteries that you can listen to on Apple Podcast and Spotify. Ade joined them on their latest episode, so be sure to check it out! You can follow the band on Instagram @dancingwithghostsofficial as well as Facebook.  The Night House (2020) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:25:27

It’s still Wet Hot Slashers Summer here on Slashers Podcast, and this week’s Call Your Ghoulfriends episode with Mikey and Ade features our special guest, Micah, over from Damn, That’s Scary Podcast. Never a dull moment with this one! This week’s film is The Night House, starring Rebecca Hall as Beth, who is reeling from the unexpected death of her husband and is left alone in the lakeside home he built for them. She tries her best to keep it together but then her nightmares start to eat away at her, along with disturbing visions, all while she uncovers some dark secrets about her late husband, proving that ya never really know someone.  The film also stars Sarah Goldberg as Beth’s best friend, Claire, Evan Jonigkeit as her late husband, Vondie Curtis Hall as Beth’s neighbor and Stacy Martin as Madelyne. The film is directed by David Bruckner, who you may already know from directing films such as The Ritual, VHS and 2022’s upcoming Hellraiser.  Find out why Micah fanboys over this guy in the episode! The film is super dark and a lot to unpack. Listen to our theories and let us know what you think! You can stream this on HBO Max, but it’s also available on Hulu Premium, and for $7.99 to rent on Amazon Prime and Vudu. This week’s Hidden Track is Obsidian Blood by Dancing With Ghosts. They are an alternative electronic rock  band hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, not too far from Ade’s neck of the woods. Ade saw them last time she was in St. Augustine, and liked them so much that she reached out to them and they were kind enough to send us a few songs. One of their vocalists, Josh, also hosts his own podcast, Uncovering Unexplained Mysteries that you can listen to on Apple Podcast and Spotify. Happy July 4th to all our Mutant Goons!  Today kicks off our first episode of our Wet Hot Slashers Summer month where Doug, Ade, Mikey and Jason discuss the Tubi exclusive, Scariest Monsters in America.  The documentary goes through a countdown of 10 of the scariest cryptids, with 10 being the least scary and 1 being the most scary. Since the show only focuses on 10, we'll give you a hint that it covers the Oklahoma Octopus, The Black-Eyed Children, The Rougarou, and some old tried and true favorites and not-so-favorites. Join us as we dissect our favorite cryptids, go through the countdown, and even discuss which ones we think are actually real.  We want to hear from you! Email or DM us on Instagram and tell us your favorite cryptid, scariest cryptid, or cryptid you think exists. We'll give you a special shoutout on the next episode for participating. We hope you all have a happy and safe holiday weekend! Special Hidden Track today from Jason's voicemail - ha! So bizarre but pretty funny, if not creepy.  Death Drop Gorgeous - Our Big Gay Pride Episode! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:14:38

Happy last Monday of Pride Month, Goons, and welcome to a Call Your Ghoulfriends episode here on Slashers Podcast. Today, we are going all out and full on drag queen with our episode on Death Drop Gorgeous. You can view this one on Tubi or Shudder, and I'm sure Prime and other platforms, but Tubi is free, so if you don't want to cough up the cash, Tubi's your best bet! This film centers around a dejected bartender and an aging drag queen, who try to survive the eccentric and hostile nightlife of a corrupt city, as a masked maniac slaughters young gay men and drains them of blood. The film is written and directed by Brandon Perras, Michael J Ahern and Christopher Dalpe, which is essentially their debut but they have more in the works that we're super excited for. Both Mikey and Ade feel it's important for horror to showcase more queer writers and directors, as well as story lines. We're so excited for you to hear this one, because the Ghoulfriends discuss how horror does have tons of homo-erotic moments, and not just A Nightmare on Elm Street part 2, but even more recent films such as Wrong Turn (reboot) and The Ranger feature LGBTQIA+ themes. We feel that this genre is a great place to showcase those themes. So grab your pride flag and your best pair of heels and listen in! In addition to this fabulous episode, we also feature a HIDDEN TRACK today, with the song "Reflection" by Losing Lament. They are based out of Florida, so please check them out at losinglament.com where you can see their dark, bloody, bad ass music video, and also please find them on Instagram @losinglament , in addition to Facebook. Hope y'all enjoy this one, and if you want more hidden tracks in the future, please feel free to recommend up and coming artists and we will do our best to feature them! Finally, since this is still Pride Month, if you would like to give back to LGBTQIA+ community, please support the onepulsefoundation.org . We love and miss our 49 and we will not let hate win. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Gutterballs (2008) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:49

Happy Monday, Goons!!! Join your favorite Smoke Break hosts this week. That's right, Doug, Coker and Mikey all get together to discuss the Canadian rape/revenge horror comedy, Gutterballs (2008) written and directed by Ryan Nicholson and starring Dan Ellis, Nathan Witte, Mihola Terzic, Alastair Gamble, and Candice Lewald.  Find out why the guys seem to find this one a guilty pleasure. As with most polarizing films like this, reviews are pretty mixed, with Dread Central condemning it while some critics praise the gore and performance by Dan Ellis. The film centers around a bowling night that turns into bloody death match for a team of teenagers, as a deranged serial killer is taking them down one by one. TRIGGER WARNING: THIS FILM DOES INCLUDE A PROLONGED RAPE SCENE. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Deeper... Bluer... umm it's still shark month here on Slashers Podcast. What better way to say goodbye than to discuss 1999s Deep Blue Sea??? It's only the best fucking shark film since Steven Spielberg's Jaws. Renny Harlin (who you may know from classics like A Nightmare on Elm St. part 4: the Dream Master, Die Hard 2, Longkiss Goodnight, and divorced from Geena Davis, helloooo) really made sure to bring it with this one. We have Samuel mother fucking Jackson, we have Thomas Jane, we have LL Cool J, we have Stellan Skarsgard, we have Saffron Burrows, and we have Michael Rappaport. Like seriously? If you don't love this movie, you need to stop talking to Ade, like yesterday.  Challenge Episode - Shark Encounters, Swamp Shark, and Santa Jaws | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:59:52

Today is a very special episode, and hopefully the first of many CHALLENGES.  Jake wanted to get a little creative, so each host assigned a Tubi or Prime Shark movie to another host along with a challenge: Jake assigned Shark Encounters of the Third Kind (available on Tubi) for Ade. Mikey assigned Santa Jaws (available on Prime) for Jake. Ade assigned Swamp Shark (available on Tubi and stars Kristi Swanson) for Mikey. The challenges were as follows: Jake challenged Mikey to memorize and reenact some lines from Swamp Shark. Mikey challenged Ade to write a sex scene fan fiction for Shark Encounters. (PATREON BONUS: we’re posting it for our Patreon patrons, so if you would like to sign up for a tier to read this raunchy hot mess, please do so here: patreon.com/slasherspod) Ade challenged Jake to sing for us a Christmas song that plays during Santa Jaws. We don’t want to give too much away, but Jake goes over the top, and the boys may or may not help Ade read her smut.  Which of the hosts kills their challenge, and which of the hosts bombs it? You decide! Let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes,  please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
