On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick talks about the ramifications of the Giants getting swept by the Dodgers in this two-game series. The Giants held the Dodgers to six runs in two games, but Dodgers pitching was better. San Francisco couldn't get a big hit with runners on base. Despite the losses, the Giants have an 8.5-game lead on a playoff spot. Before the game, Thairo Estrada was recalled from Triple-A and Mauricio Dubón was optioned for the first time since joining the team in 2019. Dubón had struggled mightily this year, and Estrada was tearing it up in Sacramento. Mike Tauchman injured his knee while making a fabulous catch in the outfield. After striking out in eight straight plate appearances, he has reached base in four of his last five dating back to his extra-inning home run in Anaheim. He's been a man of extremes this season, playing elite defense and having superb discipline, but his bat has been ice cold for the most part. The number one thing we learned is that the Giants' bats went ice cold in DC. Brandon Belt and Steven Duggar struck out almost every time they came to the plate, and mainstays like Buster Posey, Mike Yastrzemski, and Brandon Crawford didn't do much either (although Posey's solo homer was enough to secure a 1-0 win in the first game). We also learned that Anthony DeSclafani is a very good starter for the Giants, something that was in doubt after he allowed 10 earned runs to the Dodgers recently. Mike Tauchman continued to scuffle at the plate, but made another game-saving catch, robbing Juan Soto of a homer in the Giants' 1-0 win on Friday. Finally, we learned that Tauchman's spot on the roster continues to be safe because he doesn't have minor league options, and that Duggar could be optioned to get Darin Ruf back onto the roster as early as today. Also, Curt Casali came off the IL, with Chadwick Tromp headed back to Triple-A; Caleb Baragar was also optioned to add Yastrzemski off the IL.
