Three ways the Wisconsin Badgers football team can still salvage a successful season. We take a further look at the beatdown from the Ohio State Buckeyes as they blasted the Wisconsin Badgers in Columbus. We zoom in on the first quarter and look at how the game got away from Wisconsin. There was some excellent play calls and design from Ryan Day and CJ Stroud, some bad misses from Jim Leonard's defense and a controversial decision from Paul Chryst in the first quarter. Specifically with the Buckeyes we talk about all of the ways they scheme open their galaxy of stars using motion, play-action and rollouts. Its very impressive and it clearly caused issues for the Badgers defense. We talk about the Wisconsin front 7 and a disappointing effort from Keanu Benton and the linebackers. Wisconsin Badgers football has played three games, Justin and I go position by position and talk about which spots are better than we thought they were and which spots are worse. We are both onboard with Graham Mertz looking incredible. Statistically Mertz is one of the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten, certainly nobody saw that coming. On the negative side, both the running backs and offensive line have underperformed, specifically Braelon Allen is down from his yards per carry last year, is there reason to be concerned, or is it just early season jitters. Lets talk about the positives for the Wisconsin Badgers football team; starting with the fact that Graham Mertz is a good quarterback - he looks so much better than what we saw last year. Currently Mertz is statistically the 4th best QB in the Big Ten. If that trend holds, I still think the rest of this team is really good and the loss to Washington State is going to look more and more like a blip in the noise. If we still believe all of the pre-season hype with the defense, with Bob Bostad coaching the offensive line, with the upgraded WR corps and with Bobby Engram calling plays. We talk about just how bad the Big Ten West is, and why Wisconsin even if they continue to struggle may be the best bad team in the division. The most competent team so far has been Minnesota and they've played absolutely nobody and will need to go through Madison for the axe. We also talk about the large number of new players and faces that are still likely gelling and how the Badgers are a team that should keep getting better as the season unfolds.
