On the line today we have Lazarus Vekiarides from Cloud-based storage startup ClearSky Data. Clearsky has an interesting approach to replacing traditional storage arrays. ClearSky hopes to convince enterprise customers to display their traditional Tier-1 storage arrays with a hosted solution. In discussing the solution with Laz, some interesting multi-data center use cases are uncovered.

I've seen the befuddlement of why someone would run containers within a VM. I've often wondered why you wouldn't run containers in a VM. I know why Facebook and Google wouldn't run containers in a VM but those reasons to normally apply to the enterprise.

I've been pinched many ideas that I thought great technical solutions. However, I've found myself scratching my head in how I'd get the solution to fit within a large organization.
I commonly run into the educational challenge of explaining DR vs. HA. Application owners sometimes confuse having a solid disaster recovery plan with having high availability. Or vice versa. A system can be highly redundant without having a solid disaster recovery plan. In this podcast, I discuss the difference between HA and DR.
