This week we have the pleasure of talking with Alice Carbone Tench. Alice is an author, blogger, mother, amateur cook and a rock-wife! We’ve been a fan of Alice from the day we discovered her incredible online presence, and have been reading everything she puts out and watching her Instagram stories ever since. Alice is kind, funny and vulnerable which makes her relatable and captivating to her growing audience. In this episode we talk about the love of creating and persevering, putting out content while being true to your self and building an authentic audience. We get to know Alice a little bit more and found out that she learned how to speak English through listening to Nirvana. Not only that, she discovered Leonard Cohen that way! Speaking of the Canadian legend, Alice tells us some extremely wise words that Leonard Cohen himself once told her. We talk about her journey from a town in the Alps to Los Angeles, the 5 languages of love and MUCH MORE! Did we mention that Alice was ahead of the podcasting game and is familiar with interviewing people herself? That’s right! Tune in to find out about some incredible people she had the chance to speak with. Let’s just say that there’s an adorable story about an unreciprocated crush that turned into meeting the love of her life, Benmont Tench.  EP 81: Cynthia Lennon | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:40:34

When Cynthia first met John Lennon he was an 18 year old teddy boy more interested in being the class clown and playing his guitar than focusing on school work.  Both students at the Liverpool College of Art, Cynthia soon found herself looking forward to seeing him, laughing at John’s sharp wit and swooning when he’d play a tune or two after classes. It wasn’t long before they became a couple, but right from the start Cynthia realized life with John would never be simple. “He wanted me with him for as much of the time as possible which meant that very early in our relationship I had to choose between him and my other needs and responsibilities.” Cynthia chose to put John first even with all that meant. Within 5 years they would marry, Julian would be born and Beatlemania would become a worldwide phenomenon. While fame and fortune opened many doors it also came with a significant price. Fans were now camping outside their home, the press followed them everywhere they went and the loneliness of having John away most of the year was difficult for Cynthia. Even when they were together, attending swanky events and partying with all the hottest celebrities Cynthia could never shake the feeling that she didn’t belong. When John discovered psychedelic drugs, Cynthia began to feel an even greater distance growing between them. Cynthia also had increasing suspicions about John’s fidelity, especially after catching him lying about his relationship with an artist named Yoko Ono. John would continually deny he had any sort of contact with her, so you can imagine Cynthia’s shock upon returning home one day to find them lounging in bathrobes together. “I could feel a wall around them that I could not penetrate. In my worst nightmares about Yoko I had not imagined anything like this. Their intimacy had been so powerful I had felt like a stranger in my own house.” Tune in to hear Cynthia’s story and make sure to check out her memoir, John.  EP 77: Jacqueline and Pete Doherty | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:26

This is the story of Pete Doherty told from the perspective of his mother Jacqueline. Why would a mother write a book called Pete Doherty: My Prodigal Son with the subtitle Every mother’s Nightmare… A Child Off the Rails? She says “It’s balm to a hurting heart. I hope this book does the same for aching hearts everywhere” We’re talking about the Drugs in Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll, and it’s a sad story told by a devoted mother- a nurse from Liverpool who wants to raise awareness for addiction and mental health while setting the record straight. This is our second episode by a rockin mother- our first being the lovely Agnes DeMarco (check out her interview- Episode 22) who has been the biggest supporter of her son Mac and a sincere and genuine friend to his fans for many years. This story is a much, much different tale. You’ll hear some great music in this show, including a little Mac DeMarco and a lot of Libertines and Babyshambles. Chanty gives Lynx and the listeners a timeline of Pete Doherty’s musical career, beginning with his life as a child told through the eyes of his mother. What was little Pete like? How did he meet Carl Barat and how long was he actually in prison? What was his home-life like? Jacqueline sets the record straight and address things that the press got wrong when they wrote about “The biggest drug addict in Britain”. Jacqueline writes: “Mine is a mothers tale. If you were looking for sleaze and shocking stories, then this has not been the book for you and I am sorry if it has left you feeling cheated. But I am hoping that you may just have been able, through my simple story, to understand a little of what goes on behind the headlines that you read. Peter may never become a pennant prodigal. He may never turn from his present lifestyle and may never have true peace in his heart. He may never know the forgiveness of God but, whilst I have breath in my body, I shall continue to pray for him, whether he wants me to or not. Until then, he’ll remain: Peter the drug addict Peter the prisoner Peter the errant father Peter the poet Peter the prolific writer Peter the singer Peter my prodigal son.” You can find us on Twitter @chantyandlynx & on Instagram & Facebook @musesandstuffpodcast.  EP 76: Astrid Kirchherr and Stuart Sutcliffe | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:22

When Astrid Kirchherr and her friend Klaus Voorman came across The Beatles playing deep within Hamburgs red light district they were gobsmacked – rock n roll simply did not exist in Germany in 1960. Soon they began attending shows every night and Astrid, a gifted photographer, got the idea to shoot the band. With Klaus’ help translating, soon The Beatles were their fast friends and subjects of Astrid’s latest photo sessions- their first official publicity photos. She connected with all of them, but none so much as as the mysterious heartthrob of the group, Stuart Sutcliffe. Wait a minute! There’s no Stuart in The Beatles! Well, in their inception there was, and in no time they were inseparable. Like Astrid, Stuart’s talents lie in his art and together their work flourished. Astrid was his muse, but also highly influential in The Beatles early career. In this episode you’ll hear both Stuart and Astrid’s story, along with The Beatles pre-world domination. You can find Astrid’s incredible work here: http://www.artnet.com/artists/astrid-kirchherr/ & Stuart’s at Stuart Sutcliffe Art and Paintings – The Official Estate You can find us on Twitter @chantyandlynx & on Instagram & Facebook @musesandstuffpodcast.  EP 75: Lorraine D’Alessio | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:57

“There’s more to say about women than victimization. What about empowerment? What about how we’re changing the world?” Lorraine D’Alessio is a US attorney and the Founder and CEO of D’Alessio Law Group in Los Angeles, California. We have never been so inspired in such a short period of time. We learned so much during this conversation with Lorraine and we can’t wait for you to hear it. Lorraine and her company has been recognized by the Enterprising Women of America for being the most female-lead law firm. She was recently named a 2016 Century City Bar Association Lawyer of the Year and Leader of Law for International Law by the Los Angeles Business Journal. Seriously.  Before Lorraine was this amazing CEO and music immigration lawyer, she was an International Ford model so naturally we asked her what lessons she’s taken from that career into this one. We chat about what drew her to law, the importance of being an advocate for people and how the world of law can benefit from investing in more women. We get goosebumps hearing about what the energy is like in a room with a group of diverse women working together to run a multi-million dollar company. We also talk about her work with Artists for Change, an organization that tackles the ever-growing and increasing problem of human trafficking with a particular focus on human trafficking in girls. On the #metoo movement Lorraine says, “There’s more to say about women than victimization. What about empowerment? What about how we’re changing the world?”  We trust that you will learn so much in this interview and find some realistic ways to make a positive change. Thank you, Lorraine for being such a fearless leader and we cannot wait to come and visit you in LA! You can find Lorraine on Instagram @dlimmiragration and @dalessiolawgroup Find out more about her company at: http://dlgimmigration.com

 EP 74: Vivian Cash | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:16:28

She was the world’s “first lady of country music” and it’s time that she tells her story. Today Chanty presents you the life of Vivian Cash. “The truth is, I have only recently begun to feel the grace and reconciliation of making sense of what happened to our marriage. And now, with Johnny’s blessing, I would finally have what I longed to have for so many years in his shadow: a voice of my own to tell the world the truth”. First, Chanty talks about a few podcasts she’s listening to right now including The Blume Saloon whose killer tunes actually inspired the girls this week to add in a little music. You might be shocked at how many Blume Saloon episodes she has binged in the last few weeks. We also discuss the new podcast Single AF hosted by Sharise Neil and Donna D’Errico. If those names sound familiar, it could be because you know them from the TV show “Ex wives of Rock”. They talk about dating in 2018… and it’s hilarious. If you don’t already know much about Vivian Cash, you may have gotten some information from her portrayal in the 2005 movie Walk the Line. You may recall that she was not painted in a positive light whatsoever, but rather as the unsupportive, nagging wife serving only as a foil for June. This could not have been farther from the truth. We discuss her memoir “I Walked The Line: My Life with Johnny” where she finally gets to share her side of the story. With Johnny’s blessing and encouragement, Viv wrote her memoir which includes the time she met Johnny Cash, their marriage, their divorce and all of the letters Johnny to wrote her when he was stationed in Germany. She was emotionally, physically and spiritually destroyed throughout Johnny’s battle with drugs, alcohol and infidelity but found reconciliation, forgiveness, and finally peace throughout her life and writing process. We talk about their beautiful story of young love, and hope that we did Vivian justice in spreading the message of her legacy. She was a devoted wife, mother and Christian who loved animals and her community. We think you’re going to really like this one! You can check out the Blume Saloon here: www.theblumesaloon.com and on Facebook and Instagram by the same name.  EP 73: Bif Naked | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:04

Chanty and Lynx chat with the one and only Bif Naked! Getting to sit down with Canada’s Queen of Punk was such an immense pleasure! Bif has been kicking ass and breaking barriers for over two decades now, and recently shared her personal journey in her incredible memoir I, Bificus. We talk about Bif’s writing process (hand written?!), how the world opened up for her when she followed her heart and became a solo artist and how the industry is changing for women in music. We also talk about our shared love of being pet owners and the inspiration and love that comes with adopting a fur baby. We admire Bif for SO many reasons, one being her ability to turn what some may feel are negatives into positives. From her battle with breast cancer came a passion for volunteering and with menopause came an opportunity to discuss what was once swept under the rug. Once a trailblazer, always a trailblazer!! We love Bif’s new single Hot Box Girls (check it out here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyHdfunHwSk) and are so excited to hear more new music.  EP 72: Edie Sedgwick | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:34:11

“She was a catalyst. By being in contact with her, the edges were sharper. An evening with Edie would only end when Edie had got to the point of exhaustion, which would be at the end of 2 or 3 days. There’s that old Yogi axiom: the higher you go, the further you fall. We all know that. She liked walking very close to extinction, always.”    From the moment Edith Minturn Sedgwick was born she was destined for both greatness and hardship. Desperate to break free from the clutches of her overbearing, abusive father, Edie (along with a number of her siblings) would be in and out of multiple psychiatric hospitals by the time she turned 20. It wasn’t until she began attending Cambridge as an art student miles away from the family ranch in Santa Barbara that the world opened up for her. Adored by all those around her Edie got her first real taste of freedom and fame. Within a year she had conquered the Harvard/Cambridge scene and set her sights for something bigger, New York City.  Word travels fast and within a couple months Edie was Manhattan’s new “It Girl” with people like Bob Dylan, Bob Neuwirth and Lester Persky knocking on her door. In March of 1965 Edie was introduced to Andy Warhol who knew a star when he saw one and together they became a sensation. In a mere 6 months Edie had starred in multiple Warhol productions, traveled to Europe with him to promote their films and was being mobbed at art galleries by adoring fans. The press had dubbed her “Girl of the Year” and there seemed to be no limit to the possibilities that lie ahead. But Edie’s mind was elsewhere, mourning the deaths of two of her brothers and forever in fear of her father putting her away again. Edie lived like everyday would be her last with mass excess in every aspect. After spending her entire $80,000 inheritance in that first 6 months all Edie had left was her fame and a massive drug addiction. As quickly as she rose came a hard fall. By the end of the year Edie and Andy’s relationship was on the rocks, the modelling and acting gigs began to disappear and her family cut her off completely. Edie would continue to fight, desperately trying to out-run the Sedgwick curse that claimed her dear brothers.  For those who only know of Edie through her beautiful photographs, or the very loosely based biopic Factory Girl, this is her TRUE story. After listening check out Edie: American Girl By Jean Stein & George Plimpton and Edie: Girl on Fire By Melissa Painter & David Wiseman, two INCREDIBLE biographies about Edie to learn even more about this beautiful, troubled, super star.
