Episode 52: Frumma Rosenberg-Gottlieb, Co-Author of Awesome Aging and Jewish Mindfulness Expert | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:20

B”H Moadim l’Simcha, everyone! This is the week of Chol Hamoed Pesach and you’re listening to Jewish Latin Princess. I’m your host Yael Trusch. I had an awesome two Sedarim with friends and family. Our custom is to have one Seder where we host guests, and our children are active participants in that of course. But then, we have a Seder which we dedicate exclusively to our children – they can shine, show off their haggadot, share the insights that they’ve learned in school, as questions, sing etc. We went till 2 am each night and it was a lot of fun. On the first night which was the one where we had guests, we had Piñatas with the ten Plagues (in true Jewish Latin Princess spirit!) and that was incredibly fun – plagues falling on our heads! It was hysterical! And today I couldn’t be more pleased to be celebrating this week of Passover by bringing you my old time friend Frumma Rosenberg Gottlieb, author of Awesome Aging. In Awesome Aging Frumma is teaching people over 50 how to live the third act of their lives with more meaning, dedicating time to those activities that nourish their values and passions. How appropriate to talk to Frumma on this week when we are working on letting go of self imposed shackles and become free to really be our highest self. She shares with us her journey from an affluent Reform young woman searching for meaning, involved in transcendental meditation, to becoming an Observant woman. She’s coached hundreds of women throughout her career as a life coach and spiritual mentor. She’s been cited in Time Magazine as an Expert on Mindfulness and Judaism and in Arianna Huffington’s book Thrive; appeared in the Oprah Winffrey show and in the best-selling book Small Miracles. Let me ask you this, do you have a mission statement? How much effort are you dedicating to cultivating relationships in your life? And why is that even important? Why should we all be taking at least five minutes to meditate a day? And how could we use our breathing throughout our day to keep us mindful, in the moment, and not frazzled? These are just some of the awesome tips that Frumma shares with us today. Here we go, with the awesome Frumma Rosenberg Gottlieb. You can find Frumma at www.awesomeagingthebook.com The book is Awesome Aging and you can find it here. B”H Welcome to Jewish Latin Princess everyone! I’m Yael Trusch your host. This is the final countdown to Passover. Are you ready? I wish I could say I was ready but this year I’m more behind than ever I think. As you may know I was speaking at Houston’s JCC last night. In addition, my youngest son turned 6 this past Shabbat, so mazal tov to him. Maybe I was this behind 6 years ago when he was born and possibly in 7 years – with a Bar Mitzvah only a few days before Pesach. I’m not sure. But anyways, here we are. Last night was a lot of fun and now I’m really tackling Passover, as I’m sure you all are. So I want to leave you with some words of inspiration as you finish preparing your kitchens and everything else, getting it all ready for the big day. This is something I wrote initially for the Jewish Herald Voice Passover Magazine a few years ago and those of you who listen to the episodes in Spanish, you will have also caught it in Spanish last week. Oh and I wanted to let you know that past JLP Podcast guest, Rebekah Saltzman founder of Balagan Be Gone – she was on Episode 27 – is launching an online course that looks fabulous for all of us who suddenly realized, ok it’s time for me to take control of my clutter, because my clutter is controlling me!?  Episodio 51S: Yael Trusch, Cargando espejos y panderetas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:37

Abbi and I met in the online world and have had a virtual friendship for a while. We’ve been supporting each other’s work ever since. Meanwhile, a couple of years ago, before Abbi moved to Israel, we lived in the same city and moved in pretty much the same circle. Yet, we never met! And as Abbi mentioned on the interview, we didn’t even “meet” though the Jewish online world, we actually connected via a non-Jewish forum. So, I think it was #hasgachapratit, Divine Providence, that at this juncture in our lives, G-d wanted us to “meet.” And I’m so very grateful for that. More about Abbi, at SuccessfulFreelanceMom.com, she teaches mothers how to break into freelance writing and land high-paying jobs while they’re at home with kids. Not only does Abi tell us about her business, but Abbi tells us about her relationship with G-d. What got Abbi up from her kitchen floor, where she spent many mornings crying after a challenging time in her life? What kind of money can one make having a freelance writing career?  Episode 44: Rivka Fishman, Author of Sara the Bucket Filler & Creator of Bully Proofing Your Child | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:37

B”H Has your child ever come home from school sad because there is someone who is making his life miserable? Other than the teacher that is. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? It is so painful to see our kids in pain. And sometimes all we want to do is rescue them. Social dynamics can be hard – not just for kids, but hey, even for adults. Let’s face it. We are going to face people who are not so nice all throughout our lives. My guest today is on a mission to change the bully-proofing conversation – to incorporate empathy, get rid of the victim mentality and empower our children to deal with others in the way they’d like to be treated – with kindness and respect. My guest is Rivka Fishman – she is the creator of the training for parents and educators, Bully Proofing Your Child and the Author of the newly released book, Sara the Bucket Filler. This is a must listen to episode, as Rivka has a super important message to share with parents, educators and children. Rivka has been in Jewish education for seventeen years, teaching fourth grade and middle school. She is the mother of six children, and seeing the dynamics among her own children, her students and her friends’ children, made her start exploring the topic of “bullying.” Unfortunately, she found that the conventional methods were not getting to the root of the problem. What was it about the prevailing bully-proofing conversation that did not sit well with Rivka and led her to take a different approach? How do we approach the problem of kids not being nice to each other? What are we doing right as parents and what could we be doing better? What should be the schools’ roles in all this? And hey, what if your child is the bully!? What do we do then? All of this and more from the lovely Rivka Fishman. (You can also read what I wrote about Sara the Bucket Filler and Rivka’s amazing Hashgacha Pratit story on Jewish Latin Princess here.)  Episode 41: Lenore Skenazy, America’s Worst Mom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 40:52

B”H Are you an over protective mother? Do you allow your kids to do age appropriate things independently, despite the risks that might be involved? What is age appropriate? As a society we do not know any more. Do you let the fear of some terrible thing happening – what my guest calls “Worse First Thinking” – overcome you? Welcome to Jewish Latin Princess. I’m Yael Trusch, your host. I have Lenore Skenazy on the show and I’m so excited. Lenore has been called America’s Worst Mother – how about that? This title propelled her to revolutionize parenting and create a much needed cultural shift. Perhaps we need to get back to a place where we trust our kids to do and act independently, as opposed to treating them like porcelain figurines. Sounds like the way I grew up. In fact, Lenore claims that the world is much safer now than it was then. So what are we so afraid of? Lenore is the Author of Free Range Kids, How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children without Going Nuts with Worry. She’s a Discovery Life TV host and the creator of Letgrow.org. Lenore is a sought after speaker and a leader on issues ranging from parenting in America to public policy. If you haven’t read Lenore’s book or blog, you will find this interview extremely eye-opening and I invite you to find out more about how you can ease up on your parenting and help create the cultural shifts that we need in order to get our kids back to our neighborhood playgrounds, and walking to their friend’s houses, cooking dinner?
