 DoA #120: The 2 Kinds of Desire | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:27

Corresponding Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUgYBx_or6I Meta Questions: What is Advantageous? What is Detrimental? Question 365: @ 12:19 Why is passion considered a defilement although it is the only way via which beings are born? Also, Buddha also said that human birth is much more precious than birth in higher realms since it has both pleasure and pain and that only produces a desire for liberation and human beings can only be born if passion is there. Could you please shed some more light on this? The Two kinds of Desire = passions https://what-buddha-said.net/drops/II/Two_kinds_of_Desire.htm Question 366: @ 19:44 For ending of kamma via eight-fold noble path, is it right that one still has to experience bright and dark results to reach that stage?  DoA #119: Early Buddhism, Quantum Physics, and Relativity. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:40:36

DoA #119: Early Buddhism, Quantum Physics, and Relativity. Corresponding Videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DHg579WvLY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M2tj4S4j4I This lecture was given on Jan 10, 2019, at The Theosophical Society in America, Wheaton, Illinois, Theosophical.org The 20th century started with two groundbreaking scientific revolutions: quantum mechanics and relativity. Quantum mechanics stated that elementary systems only have real definite local properties if and when observed by a conscious observer. This squares well with early Buddhism’s idea of Emptiness (‎Suññatā) and emphasis on Experience as the sole reality. Special relativity introduced length-contraction and time-dilation similar to Buddhism’s concept of seeing all states as conditional relations (Paţţhāna) between mind and its object, thus also renouncing the naïve idea of a local reality existing independent of the observing mind. Join Buddhist monk and scientist Bhante Samahita for a discussion on the convergence of Buddhism, quantum physics, and relativity. Bhante Samāhita was educated as a medical doctor at the Copenhagen University in Denmark, and became Associate Professor in Bioinformatics at the Technical University in Denmark, working with theoretical biology and artificial intelligence. He arrived in Sri Lanka in 2001, where he became fully ordained as a Bhikkhu in 2003. As a monk of the Theravada Araññavasin Forest Tradition, he has been living and meditating for the past 16 years alone in a remote mountain forest hermitage. His main philosophical interest is the convergence and congruence of ideas within Early Buddhism, Orthodox Quantum Physics, Einsteinian Relativity, Information Theory, and Thermodynamics.
