As some of you may know, I have Yaqui roots, the only problem is that I wasn't really raised submersed in the culture. I really only know that I have Yaqui ancestry because when I was a young child I vividly remember my Great Grandparents speaking it at their house in the outskirts of Mexicali. Over most of my adult life I have made it a personal mission to recover as much knowledge be it historical, cultural or spiritual of the Yaqui tradition. When I lived in Phoenix I had my studio in a artist building and by coincidence my neighbor in that building happened to be Yaqui and on that same quest for knowledge. That neighbor was Carlos Valencia from the Yaqui town of Guadalupe, AZ right outside of Phoenix. At that point he was starting his YAQUI PRIDE clothing line / movement. If you are part Yaqui this gonna be a fun and informative episode, if your not it still is cause Carlos is one cool native nerd!
