Edon is the Skokie teen who took the country by storm in 2012 on America’s Got Talent. He wowed the judges and charmed the crowd with his heartfelt piano renditions of today’s hits, reaching the semi-finals… all while proudly wearing his kipah. Edon opened for Aziz Ansari at YLD’s Big Event on the first night of Chanukah in 2012.
On Nov. 17, Rabbi Michael Siegel was honored for his 30 years of service to Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chicago. Rabbi Siegel was ordained in 1982 by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, where he received his Master of Hebrew Letters. That year, he came to Anshe Emet as Assistant Rabbi, becoming Senior Rabbi in 1990. His current and past posts have included the Executive Council of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, the Chancellor’s Rabbinic Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Executive Board of Mazon: A Jewish Resource to Hunger, and the Hechsher Tzedek Commission. Siegel helped to form the Hayom Coalition, which is re-envisioning the Conservative Movement, he helped create the Synagogue Initiative of AIPAC, and he has represented the synagogue at the White House.

The Jewish Agency's Women's Empowerment Program in Beit Shemesh, Israel harnesses the strength of women's skill, backgrounds, and interests to help them become entrepreneurs. One such woman is Osnat Moshe, who opens her home for workshops in Kurdish cooking and has learned how to turn her skills and talents into a business by preparing her native food for locals. Osnat is just one of the Israeli women helped by programs in Israel funded through our Jewish United Fund dollars. Recently a contingent of American Jews stopped by her home for a homemade meal.
