As the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick's death has long been commemorated in the U.S. with green rivers, long parades, and habitually food-colored beer. On Christmas Day, singer-songwriter of The Pogues Shane MacGowan turned 60 years old. Earlier this month, Shane celebrated this momentous occasion with his closest friends in a sold-out concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin with President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins in attendance. This week on Windy City Irish Radio Tim and Mike pay tribute to the man that legendary Clash lead man and Pogues short-timer Joe Strummer called one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century with clips from the big birthday celebration with @Sharon Shane with Shane himself, U2 frontman Bono with Pirate of the Caribbean Johnny Depp․ and a holiday classic from Glen Hansardand Lisa O'Neill Music. Tune in for a live duet with Christy Moore and Shane, a haunting due with Sinéad O'Connor with Shane, a nice Pogues cover from Socks in the Frying Pan and plenty from Shane and the Pogues themselves. As Tim enjoys the last of his Hawaiian sunsets before returning home to chilly Chicago, Mike welcomes his brother, Tim Shevlin, into the studio to reminisce about the Irish American Heritage Hour hosted by their father, Mike Shevlin Sr, so many years ago. Mike and Tim co-hosted with their Dad on a number of occasions on WOPA/WPNA back in the day and they are together again on the airwaves for the first time in 20 years spinning some of dear old Dad's favorites and playing clips from way back when.
