 OOA Show Episode 166 - Everest | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:53:01

Everest seems to be done for the season according to Alan Arnette's latest update: "The final large #Everest2014 teams that might have climbed declare the end: Himex and Altitude Junkies." Before this latest update, we brought GEAR:30's own Everest summiter, Will Calton, onto the podcast to give us his perspective on the tragic avalanche that killed 13 and left three still missing. Will's portion of the episode is here. Scroll below for the entire show.  Will Calton on the 2014 Everest Tragedy & Shutdown | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:23:07

Will Calton, Everest Summit. Photo Credit: Damai Chhiri Sherpa  Will Calton along with fellow Ogden resident and friend, Tom Burton, summited Everest in 2012. Will continues to closely follow the exploits of the world's tallest mountain, the deaths, summits, success stories, and drama. This year is extraordinarily significant as an avalanche swept through the Icefall killing 13 Sherpa men with three more missing. This tragic event may in effect shut the mountain down as many of the Sherpa were part of the high altitude team who set ropes for all those who follow.   Will's personal experience on the mountain is quite remarkable and to have him available to contribute his thoughts on the mountains recent events is a privilege. Thanks Will! And, we would like to send our prayers and thoughts to those who lost loved ones in the avalanche.   Consider purchasing a print for $100 to benefit the families of Sherpa who died.  Mike Henderson - Ogden Climbing Festival | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:12:14

Most of the winter Mike Henderson charged the backcountry guiding Dawn Patrol for the Weber State Outdoor Program. Now that spring has sprung, well, 'Hendo' is still skiing, but also helping organize this year's 7th Annual Ogden Climbing Festival. Below is our interview with Mike about #OCF7, but first the deets:  GEAR:30 kicks off the Fest on Thursday, April 10th at 7pm, with a slideshow presentation by adventure photographer Nathan Smith. Check out Nathan's images at Pull Photography. This year's Fest will introduce an Invitation Only Intercollegiate Boulder Comp at Friday night's Weber Rocks demo. Young Subaru donated a $250 purse for the winning climbers. Friday's demo will also be a great night for families and climbers to come test gear, jump on a rope for the first time, and meet Keynote Speaker, climber and trainer, Obe Carrion.  Saturday is the big Fest day! The action kicks off at 10am in the Ogden Boulder Field with a Red Point Boulder Comp! At noon is lunch sponsored by Red Bull. Clinics for the community begin at 1pm. From upping your climbing game with Obe Carrion's "Next Level" clinic, to Climbing Yoga, a Striders Running Trail Run, Rock Rescue, and Children's Bouldering, there really is something for everyone at Saturday's boulder field events.  Amer Sports will host Obe Carrion's Keynote Presentation at 6:30pm. We'll announce winners of the boulder comps, and give away ridiculous amounts of swag! The weekend wraps with an after party at GEAR:30, catered by Roosters. Reel Rock 8 will be playing, along with music, chair bouldering, and socializing.   More Festival details in the interview, or visit the Festival website here: http://www.weber.edu/outdoor/ogden-climbingfestival.html

 Mr. Goodyear’s Neighborhood Episode 4 - Steve Conlin | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:04:43

Episode 4 of the Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood Podcast featured the man who lives Underground with 5 Wives, behind Historic 25 Street, and who once began a war with Idaho, the myth and legend, Steve Conlin.  Yes, the same man who once ran Ogden One Cycling, photographed the Nagano Olympics, and helped finance hundreds of homes in Weber County. Conlin is one interesting cat, and yes, Ogden can claim him as one of its own, Ogden's Own.  Check out the interview below and learn how Steve Conlin taught himself to live life rather than live through others. Huge credit to John Wojciechowski with Striders Running for reaching out to Conlin and booking this awesome guest.  Check out the official Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood Podcast page here: http://www.stridersrunningblog.com/goodyear-podcast.html  Mr. Goodyear's Neighborhood Episode 4 - Steve Conlin

OOA Show Episode 163 - Running The Edge | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:05:46

INTERVIEW: Scott Jaime – Colorado Trail FKT (Fastest Known Time)    We had the privilege of interviewing the owner of the Colorado Trail FKT (Fastest Known Time), Scott Jaime, before the Ogden preview of his film. Running The Edge played at Peery's Egyptian Theater to an enthusiastic, nearly sold-out crowd. Would like to thank John Wojciechowski with Striders Running for pitch-hitting for the San Francisco travelin’ co-host Todd to the Top during this episode. INTERVIEW: I'm with the Band Next, we had a couple musicians back on the Ogden Outdoor Adventure Show! We called this segment, "I'm with the Band." Dan Froerer with Betty Hates Everything, and Austin Cochran from The Last Wednesday chilled with us and chatted about their mini-tour, promoting music in 2014, and preparing for a Spartan Race.  Scott Jaime and John Wojciechowski hung around to chime in with News and Events, and things got weird. You'll have to listen. News: Bryce Canyon to Propose Horseback Riding Changes Three Die in Zion Basejumping Run and Jump to Build Bone Density 16 Year Old Looks to Summit Everest Marathon Numbers are up Vail Resorts Offers to Buy PCMR Dogs Getting High in Colorado Events:   April 5 – Striders Winter Racing Circuit Half-Marathon, Start at Bee Hive Homes in Ogden Valley April 10 – Ogden Climbing Festival Kickoff Slideshow with climber-photographer Nathan Smith at GEAR:30.  I’m with the Band - Betty Hates Everything & The Last Wednesday | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:20:01

From left to right: John W (Striders Running), Austin Cochran (The Last Wednesday), R. Brandon Long (OOA Show Host), Dan Froerer (Betty Hates Everything)  Thanks to Todd to the Top, we had a couple musicians back on the Ogden Outdoor Adventure Show. We'll call this little segment, "I'm with the Band." Huge thanks to Dan Froerer with Betty Hates Everything and Austin Cochran from The Last Wednesday for hanging out with us! Also, would like to thank John Wojciechowski with Striders Running for pitch-hitting for the San Francisco travelin' co-host Todd to the Top.  What you hear, here, is the second rendering of the interview. The first version, which was spectacular by the way, is lost in time as someone forgot to push the record button... whoever could that be? So, because of the mistake from yours truly, this is version 2.  Betty Hates Everything and The Last Wednesday are on a little mini-tour. Couldn't get the podcast up early enough to help out much, but if you rush up to Jerome, Idaho right now, you can catch them opening for Crash Kings.      Interview Images: GEAR:30 Radio "Adventure for your ears."

Scott Jaime - Running the Edge Interview | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:27:27

Scott Jaime set the FKT (Fastest Known Time) on the 486 mile Colorado Trail. Matt Trappe documented the amazing feat and the Ogden premier of Running the Edge: The Colorado Trail is Friday, March 27 at Peery's Egyptian Theater.  It was a privilege to have Scott sit down with us in the GEAR:30 lounge to chat about the FKT. Scott covered crew logistics, fueling, pushing past mental barriers, and the importance of balance. We also learned the man may be a better soccer player than trail runner.  Let's all rally around this amazing accomplishment and stuff Peery's Egyptian Theater Friday night!  Running the Edge: THE COLORADO TRAIL - Teaser 2 from Matt Trappe Photography on Vimeo.

Kelly Agnew - White Rim Trail FKT (Fastest Know Time) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:14:40

Setting a Fastest Known Time on a particular trail seems, from an outsiders perspective, as an unreal experience. Kelly Agnew, GEAR:30 athlete, sponsored by Hammer Nutrition and Klymit, now has two impressive FKT's to his name, and his description of his latest accomplishment is inspiring. We at the shop are proud and thoroughly impressed with Kelly's efforts over the last year, but this season is kicking off with a bang. Stoked for your future, Mr. Agnew. For humor, inspiration, and loads of insight on ultrarunning, follow Kelly's blog: Slipping Slowly Into Pain Kelly sat down with us in the GEAR:30 lounge to chat about the FKT. Check it out.
