On November 28th 2008, the anti-gay group with the Godhatesfags website, headed by Fred Phelps, threatened to come to the Commercial Drive presentation of the play The Laramie Project and protest the opening night. Vancouver's LGBTQ community help a counter-rally that evening. Phelp's right wing religious radicals from the USA never showed up.
