Christmas Special- Opening Up the Audio Vault With Phil Robertson, Jeff Foxworthy, Nolan Ryan, Ted Nugent, Bo Jackson and Louis Cahill | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:34

One of my favorites in recent memory- Louis Cahil of Gink and Gasoline explaining how a soft drink can save a gill hooked fish from bleeding out. Then we hear a timeless interview with the Duck Commander concerning hunting vs attending the birth of your child. Which is more important? Tune in to hear Phil break it down. Next, we go back in time and recount Jeff Foxworthy’s favorite deer camp prank of all time! It’s a knee slapper. In a career that spanned 4 decades as a Major League pitcher, Nolan Ryan missed very few starts. But one unfortunate bite from a coyote meant the Hall of Fame hurler wouldn’t suit up on game day. Nolan reflects on that infamous encounter with a Texas coyote. Bo knows football, Bo knows baseball and Bo knows bowhunting! Classic interview with one of the greatest athletes we’ve ever seen. The Heisman Trophy winner shares his passion for the outdoor lifestyle in this interview from the audio vault. Then, it’s one of my favorites with everybody’s favorite uncle- Ted Nugent! You never know what Ted’s going to say.

Extreme Weather Back Country Tips with Aron Snyder, Flounder Gigging the Coast and Bobwhites Go Boom Boom in Back to Back Years | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:15

We start off by talking extreme cold weather back country hunting tips and survival with Aron Snyder of Kifaru International and the Gritty Bowmen Podcast. Aron spends over 180 days/nights in the back country each year hunting and testing new gear. He gives us his top tech tips on how to stay warm during that late season back country hunt. From clothing, to footwear, how to stay warm in your sleeping bag and what he uses for ground cover in his tent. Then we head down to the Texas coast and gig some flounder with Texas A&M Galveston Marine Biology Senior Cody Klindt. The flounder are in the shallows and each cold front provides excellent gigging opportunity for these delicious flat fish. Cody walks us through the gear needed to get in the gigging game and what to look for as far as areas to target large schools of congregating flounder preparing to head out to the gulf and spawn. We wrap things up by taking a look at the banner quail year of 2016 with the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch’s Dr. Dale Rollins. Nobody knows more about, or has studied Texas quail more than Dr. Rollins. After back to back population boom years, what does he forsee moving forward? Remember, it was just 3 years ago that quail numbers were so low that there was real concern for the species’ longterm survival as a viable game bird. Dr. Rollins also gives us the latest on eyeworm mortality rates in bobwhites and much more.

Pairing up Optics With Rifles, Back to Back Booner Bucks For North Texas Bowhunter and Global Warming/Increased Agriculture Productions Affects on Waterfowl Migration | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:34:24

Vortex Optics Mark Boardman get things going by pairing up ideal magnifications with common North American hunting rifle applications. From the common deer rifle, western big rifle, AR application and smaller caliber predator rifles- we cover it all with our favorite optics expert. Next we are joined in studio by Collin County bow hunter Cody Griffin. In back to back seasons Cody has taken Boone and Crockett caliber archery bucks on his families’ 200 acre homestead. These also happen to be the ONLY bucks he has ever killed. Talk about lightning striking twice!!! Cody breaks down the details of each hunt and how a rare force of nature resulted in deer showing up on the family farm in the first place. Up until 2013 Cody had never seen a deer on the property. (Cody and I in studio with both his 2015 and 2016 bucks) We wrap things up by discussing the fall migration of waterfowl and how this past week’s cold front will affect migration trends. Ducks Unlimited’s Chris Jennings sheds some light on not only that topic but also global warming and increased agriculture’s affect on longterm duck migration trends.

Handguns with STI International, Ideal Rifle Caliber/Bullet Combos with Derrick Ratliff, Gerald Swindle on Late Fall Lunkers and Picking the Right Release With Eric Griggs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:29:02

We kick things off by talking all things handgunning and pistols with STI’s longtime Technical Services Manager David Cupp. In 22 years with STI International, David has seen and done it all, joining the Austin, TX based pistol manufacturer when it had merely 8 employees – a far cry from the 100 plus today! Anyway, we discuss some tips on how to become a more accurate shooter. Plus, David breaks down what caliber is the most popular for both competitive shooting as well as concealed carry. What about bullet selection for both applications? We cover all that, much more and discuss the latest from STI! Then our longtime friend Derrick Ratliff- CEO of Horizon Firearms drops in to talk calibers and bullet selection for the 3 most common mammals hunters come across in the Southern United States. Of course this is a little subjective, but Derrick has years of experience not only building guns for whitetail, hogs and coyotes but he also hunts each religiously. There is no right or wrong answer, but you can better your kill odds by selecting the ideal caliber and bullet for each. Next we break down late fall/early winter bass patterns with 2016 Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year Gerald Swindle. The Alabama native’s historic season was one for the ages as he claimed his second AOY crown (2004 being the other). Gerald dispels some common misconceptions about bass behavior during cold weather months. He also gives us some of his favorite baits and techniques to pull in healthy limits this time of year. Elite Archery President Eric Griggs drops by to talk some archery tips and the latest and greatest from the most shootable bow manufacturer out there. We discuss the evolution of the archery industry and some new stuff from both Elite and Scott Releases with the longtime professional archer.

Mule Deer Season Outlook, Cross Country Runner Clocked by A Deer, Late Fall Slabbin’ and CVA Muzzleloaders Chad Schearer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:27

Texas Parks and Wildlife Mule Deer program leader Shawn Gray jumps on to give his thoughts on the upcoming Texas mule deer season and the overall vitality of both the Panhandle and Trans Pecos herds. Plus, we talk about CWD in Texas mule deer and the mandatory check zones for hunters how harvest bucks in those specific regions. How are range conditions and fawn recruitment recovering after the prolonged drought? Then, collegiate cross country runner Justin DeLuzio drops by. He is the man who recently became a viral sensation after being annihilated by a whitetail deer in the middle of a college race! Luckily he escaped with minor injuries and has embraced his new celebrity status. Then we talk late fall crappie with 8 time Crappie Anglers of Texas Angler of the Year Paul O’Beir. Our old buddy just won his 8th Crappie Anglers of Texas AOY title and is on the bite. So get ready for some late fall slabbin’ with one of the best. We round out the broadcast by discussing modern muzzleloading technology and the increased hunting opportunity that black powder seasons provide hunters with CVA Muzzleloader’s Chad Schearer. The longtime professional hunter and outfitter is also the host of the hit show “Shoot Straight TV- with Chad and Marsha Schearer”. You can check out the family oriented hunting show on the Pursuit Channel.

Migratory Bird Conservation 100 Years Later, Handgunning Cape Buffalo With Razor Dobbs, Green Hunt for White Rhino and Humane Society Sues to Get Hunter’s Private Information from USFWS | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:36:41

We take an in depth look at the history of bird conservation in North America with Texas Parks and Wildlife Dove Program Leader- Shaun Oldenburger. His recent article “Under Our Wing” was featured in the latest TPWD Magazine and takes a look at the last 100 years of avian conservation. If the forefathers of conservation hadn’t realized a need to preserve migratory birds then we’d have many more species that would have shared the fate of the Passenger Pigeon and Carolina Parakeet. (Both long extinct, their imprint only survives through images and taxidermy) Then we push the envelope with our old buddy Razor Dobbs from ‘Razor Dobbs Alive’. He recently became the first person to hunt cape buffalo with a 10mm pistol. We talk about it’s performance on a 2000 lb animal as well as his ‘Green Hunt’ for white rhino in South Africa. (No the rhino wasn’t killed) We wrap up the show by discussing some infuriating news from the anti hunting faction. The Humane Society International recently sued the USFWS in order to obtain private records from hunters who have imported trophies into the US over the past 15 years. Why do the anti hunters want to build a database of trophy hunters? And what can we do to stop the Humane Society from obtaining our private information? Dallas Safari Club Executive Director Ben Carter drops by to tell us what recourse we have to keep our private info private.
