Judith Tethong served as a Youth Club Council in Jamaica when the country gained its independence in 1962. She had revolunteered in India for four years and went onto working with Tibetan peoples focusing on education. She was very effective in training the Tibetan teachers and children due to her many skills and committment to the Tibetan peoples as well as her ability to speak the local language fluently. Having been an intercultural trainer for youth at the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society, Anna Du Vent brought her work experience to Kingston, Jamaica while working as a volunteer in 2009-2010. She served as a Youth Program Advisor at the Youth Opportunity Unlimited, a youth employment centre. She tells a story about a young woman that is truly inspiring. Jean Maloney had served as an English teacher and Business Advisor in Papua New Guinea in 1981. Likewise, she had served as a Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor at the VSO Ethiopia in Addis Ababa for six weeks from February-March, 2011. Umeeda Switlo is the current Public Engagement Officer at CUSO-VSO West in Vancouver. She left Uganda at age 15. Together with her family, she is so grateful to a CUSO-VSO volunteer who helped them start a new life in Canada. She has travelled to Kenya , Uganda and Tanzania and met many volunteers doing amazing work in the field as well as many RV's in Western Canada.CUSO-VSOVolunteer for a better world! CUSO-VSO West intern James Christopherson, talks to Don Archibold who did his placement assignment with the provincial education office in Papua New Guinea from 1987 to 1990. This 3 year stint eventually turned into a 14 year stay for Don in Papua New Guinea in which he launched a successful vernacular language program that is in existence today.In this podcast, Don talks about negotiating the complex education and language politics in Papua New Guinea.
