The 2nd stop of the 2017 DC Hit & Run went down in Meribel, France. The inconsistent and troubling weather didn’t stop the field of over 50+ riders from ripping it up all day. Taking place at France’s legendary DC Area 43, the course challenged riders to ride as fast as they can through banked turns, and throw down their best tricks on the 3 judged sections (pipe, rails, and jump). At the end of the day it was Mons Roisland who took home the cash for Men's Pro and best trick with a switch back 1260, Sebbe De Buck coming in second, and Jordan Morse with 3rd. The mysterious “LeBlanc” lead the way in Men’s Open, and Nikelaeva Xenia won for the Women’s Open. Next stop Whistler! New Zealand’s premiere surf event, The Rip Curl Pro Raglan, kicked off today in two-to-three-foot peelers at Manu Bay in Raglan, North Island – hosting the very best of New Zealand’s homegrown surfing talent, alongside the competitors of the GromSearch International Final. In between heats, surfers snuck off to drive around the corner – which, in Raglan, is down a dirt road – searching for waves and finding stunning vistas. A part of the GromSearch experience is learning about the country and the land, and learning how to really “travel” while competing. 14-year-old snowboarder Sunny Steele has a weakness for Maltesers and Nutella, nevertheless, his supportive parents have been nurturing his strengths in boardsports. Sunny loves surfing and skateboarding, however, snowboarding is his true passion. This past season Sunny and his dad travelled to the United States to stack footage in the streets and backcountry, and to train with Mikey Williams Snow. They started off filming in Lake Tahoe and concluded the trip training and competing in Colorado. Sunny has been clocking up greats results in Australia and abroad, including 1st overall at the New Zealand Nationals and Thredbo Snow Series. Sunny is a well-rounded rider beyond his years, stepping outside of slopestyle and taking his skills into the streets and backcountry. He has dreams of being a professional snowboarder and competing at the X Games and Olympic Games. This season Sunny has been offered a scholarship with Ski and Snowboard Australia. It so happens that I’m a lazy animator. Using fractals, I can conjure up entire worlds without having to draw or model anything. These shapes hide in the formulas, they exist in a mathematical reality, all I need to do is explore those worlds and make them reveal themselves. For me, that discovery has become one of the most thrilling aspects of digital filmmaking.
