The Age Grouper: Triathlon Podcast

With perhaps our one and only race report of the 2010 season, we podcast from the 2010 Twin Lakes Triathlon in Palatine Illinois. Today was just a stepping stone for Eric but at the same time the start and end to Jeff's season. There's plenty of excuses to be had, then we ponder the value of our triathlete maturity, and, have we finally come to terms with simply "participating?"

Triathlon coach Dean Hewson is back for our annual spring training camp episode. We talk about the logistics of participating in, and just pulling off a successful early-season training camp. It doesn’t matter if you fly away for a week or just head out for the weekend, a training camp can really get you prepped for a great season. Then we go over some often forgotten basics of triathlon training. We end it all with the trendiest thing in social media these days - Sh!t Triathletes Say!

It's been a long, albeit mild, winter but we're ready to come out of hibernation and shed some of that extra winter insulation. We report on all we've been up to over the last few months. Then, just in time for the Spring buying season, we list the essential triathlon items needed to directly improve your splits in swimming, biking and running. Jeff, Eric and Dean get together over some drinks for this all-off-season episode. First we debate various training faux-pas, including running in place at stop lights, then discuss the merits of alternative race organizations. Guess who's back? Crowie's back. 2-time Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander is back for his annual visit with The Age Grouper. Eric and I host a talk with Crowie in front of a live audience at Runner's High. We talk all about his past, present and why he thinks his best Kona performance is still in him.

We talk about Kona, Vineman, and his dramatic victory over Chris Leito at the Boise 70.3. “Coach Craig” also provides tons of valuable advice for all of us regular age-groupers, from beginners to Kona qualifiers. Also, do we dare ask Craig “Would you rather...?”
