Militant Atheism: Transformative or Toxic | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:17:00

When a mealtime prayer is disrupted by an atheist who considers it insulting, has he established necessary boundaries of respect, or has he alienated himself from those he seeks to influence? When an atheist activist greets parishoners with shouts and picket signs on the front lawn of a church, is he effectively making his case against the influence of superstition, or is he branding the entire movement as disruptive and inflammatory? When a lawsuit is filed over a nativity scene on public property or a prayer at a city hall meeting, is it a beneficial fight to preserve church/state separation, or is it a distraction from more important issues? These are difficult questions, and no doubt there are many times when a confrontation is appropriate.  But is militant atheism a help or a hindrance as we work to rescue our communities and culture from the influence of religion? Every day, free-thinking men, women and youth are accosted by their own families because they've chosen a different path than the generations before them. Atheists/agnostics in religious homes struggle to balance love and respect of family with their own pledges to live rational, truthful lives. Families divide. Voices are raised. Tears are shed. Ties are cut. Hearts are broken. And free-thinking men, women and youth are threatened with eternal damnation by their own flesh-and-blood families. How does an atheist/agnostic cope when his family believes he is going to Hell? Your calls and letters (editor@thethinkingatheist.com) 12:00 US-CENTRAL. Throughout the religious culture, there are few more respected than The Apologist. Outside of the religious culture, there are few who are more mocked and ridiculed. He scrutinizes. He extrapolates.  Grief Without God | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:15:00

When tragedy befalls spiritual people, they often find solace and comfort in their faith. They pray. They envision reunions in Heaven with lost loved ones. They remind themselves that God has a higher purpose. But how does one deal with tragedy and grief outside of the belief in God? How do atheists cope in their own lives, and how can they offer comfort to others? A difficult subject. But an important one.

Facebook, Faith, Feuds and Facepalms | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:10:00

Every day, skeptics with Facebook accounts encounter status updates like, "It's a beautiful, sunny day! God is so good!" Or, "My mother has cancer, prayers please!" Or "Jesus loves you more than anything!" Many of us who reject the notion of a god that brings pretty sunshine and rainbows, yet ignores millions of starving children, find these daily Facebook one-liners increasingly hard to stomach. We talk about the soapbox for belief that Facebook has become, and whether or not it's effective for the free-thinking community to engage.
