Vignettes ~ Erin Dickins ~ Episode 1 ~ The Return of Give Me A Break ~ Host Bobby Pizazz | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 5595

As an award winning jazz vocalist and founding member of The Manhattan Transfer, Erin Dickins has enjoyed career singers dream about. After five years singing ensemble music with The Manhattan Transfer, she emerged as one of the top studio singers in New York. Dickins toured and recorded with many notable artists including Leonard Cohen, Bette Midler, James Taylor, The Talking Heads, James Brown, Jaco Pastorius and Ashford & Simpson, to name but a few.   Erin Dickins Dickins recently completed work on a new album, Vignettes, slated for release in 2017. This first self-produced project is a compilation of one-on-one collaborations with an array of world-class musicians; many who have been close friends for many years. Eclectic and personal, Vignettes is a true representation of Dickins creativity. It captures her love of many musical genres and shows the true range of her vocal artistry. Among her collaborators are David Friedman (vibes), Elliott Randall (Steely Dan guitar), John Lissauer (Leonard Cohen Producer), Rob Mounsey (piano), A.J. Croce (Jim’s son - piano) and many others. As passionate about cooking as she is about music, in November 2014 Erin Dickins released a new cookbook with an accompanying CD, Sizzle & Swing - Jazzin’ Up Food by ComteQ Publishing with Dot Time Records. In concert with the book/CD release, Dickins launched a new line of herbal seasonings that shares the moniker, Sizzle & Swing. Ms. Dickins was awarded the prestigious Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award and was also the recipient of the “Best Jazz Vocalist” honor awarded by CoffeeTalk Jazz Radio in Los Angeles. She is currently booking for 2017-18 internationally. * Erin Dickins: Vignettes review – 10 stunning duets Dave Gelly Sunday 9 April 2017 03.00 EDT Ten tracks, 10 duets, each with a different partner – not showbiz names, just startlingly good musicians. And Erin Dickins, New York session superwoman and founder member of the Manhattan Transfer, knows the difference. Some, such as drummer, vocalist, harmonica player Paul Jost are multi-instrumentalists; others, such as bassist Bruce Hamada and vibist David Friedman, are straightforward virtuosi. With a mixture of technical brilliance and stylistic instinct, Dickins builds a fascinating series of vignettes, ranging from quick-cutting, multilayered effects to simple voice and piano. The material is as varied as the treatment, including pieces by Nat King Cole, Bob Dylan, Annie Ross and Frankie Laine, among others. And not a cliche or slack moment anywhere.   All materials presented on the GMAB radio program are royalty free as agreed to by the owners thereof, and the programming is presented for educational and informational purposes as no artist, writer of publisher are paid for their appearance ”Give Me A Break” Radio Hour Podcast is supported by donations from listeners like you! … Please Click the PayPal Donate button  to help keep great programming free for all to enjoy.  Episode 7 ~ Give Me A Break ~ March 6, 2013 Dick Wagner | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7875

March 6, 2013 Dick Wagner’s songs and lead guitar have been featured on more than 200 renowned albums, garnering more than 35 Platinum and Gold records, BMI songwriter awards, Emmys, and numerous prestigious international awards. The Detroit area native helped define an era in rock history by playing lead guitar or writing songs for Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Kiss, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Meat Loaf, Steve Perry, Etta James, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Air Supply, Hall & Oates, Ringo Starr, Guns & Roses, Tori Amos, Frank Sinatra, and dozens of others. Legendary for his groundbreaking collaborations with Alice Cooper, Wagner was musical director, lead guitarist and co-writer of the icon’s biggest hits, including Only Women Bleed, You and Me, and Welcome To My Nightmare. Wagner was Cooper’s right hand man on such groundbreaking albums as, Welcome to My Nightmare, Alice Cooper Goes to Hell, Lace and Whiskey, From the Inside, and DaDa. Together, Cooper and Wagner co-wrote the majority of Alice Cooper’s top selling singles and albums, including more than 50 songs featured on 57 Alice Cooper albums released worldwide. As a teenage musician living an hour north of Detroit Michigan, Dick Wagner enjoyed his first taste of “big time show biz,” when he was asked to play guitar as backup for some of his musical heroes, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and Little Richard. Great balls of fire! The Michigan public first took notice of Wagner’s talent in 1964, when he formed the band The Bossmen, whose songs likeBaby Boy were #1 radio favorites in Michigan. Soon Wagner was writing and producing for other Michigan bands. In the late 1960s, as Wagner’s work became more complex and featured a harder edge, he formed the wildly popular band, The Frost, recording three Billboard charted albums and drawing enthusiastic crowds to hear songs likeMystery Man and Rock N’ Roll Music.  Wagner moved to New York to form Ursa Major, a seminal rock band and power trio that recorded one, self-titled, defining album for RCA. The raw musical power and artistry of Ursa Major inspired a generation of rock musicians and remains an influential album for today’s musicians. Little known factoid: the original Ursa Major lineup included Wagner on guitar and Billy Joel on keyboards, but dramas in Billy’s personal life intervened and he left the band. Wagner’s guitar virtuosity captured the attention of Lou Reed, and he was invited to play on Lou’s European Berlin tour in 1973. Wagner assembled a powerhouse band including Steve Hunter and Wagner on dueling lead guitars, Prakash John on bass, Pentti Glan on drums and Ray Colcord on keyboards. The live album, Rock N’ Roll Animal, recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, remains one of the most celebrated and influential guitar albums in rock history. Lauded by Rolling Stone, Billboard, and the international press, Rock ‘N’ Roll Animal was described by renowned music critic, Robert Christgau: “This is a live album with a reason for living.” Writer Joe Viglione, in his book, A Study of Lou Reed’s Berlin and Rock N’ Roll Animal Albums, describes the guitar stylings of Hunter and Wagner: “Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner were as potent a duo as Keith Richards and Mick Taylor, and the four make-up the “Golden Era” of both The Rolling Stones and Lou Reed, that period when the recordings were beyond magical…. Lou’s 9/1/73 show still rates as numero uno in my book, for presentation, drama, craftsmanship and sheer rock and roll energy.” In September 2010, nearly 40 years after the release of Rock N’ Roll Animal, Gibson.com honored Dick(continued)

Episode 4 Give Me A Break Radio Featuring The Reminders Christmas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7616

Hearty Americana, leathery Country and bluesy Gospel — with lyrics that speak to your soul ... Merry Christmas from Give Me A Break Radio with Host Bobby Pizazz You have to start with the word harmony when you talk about the Reminders. It’s that hard to define, almost magical thing that happens sometimes between musicians … that draws you in and holds you. [gallery columns="4" ids="3786,3785,3787,3784"] The Reminders Albums Available At Amazon, iTunes and CDBaby The blending of their voices, their personalities and their takes on life, mixes itself up into something tangible; you’ll feel it when you hear them – like the taste of the salt spray in the air where they live, in three small towns on the Atlantic coast of Delaware. Hearty Americana, leathery Country and bluesy Gospel would come close to describing the sound. You’d feel as comfortable seeing them in a sold out concert hall as you would in one of their rehearsals; they’re that real. The songs speak for themselves. Hope will be your take away. THE REMINDERS are Back! After a year of recovering from life threatening health issues, by the grace of God and some of the best medical care possible, the Reminders are coming back stronger than ever and returning to the road in November for the 2016 Christmas season! It was October of 2015 when they regrettably had to postpone their upcoming dates because of health issues with John and then Kevin. The Good news is they are feeling better than ever and are anxiously awaiting their return. Come out and celebrate the Christmas season with the band at a venue near you. The band has not been idle in their time off, they began recording their 5th album this summer in Woodstock NY and Twelve brand new Reminders songs will be coming out early next year, stay tuned, this Album is a very special effort from the guys and we are sure you will be blessed by their new offering. More to come on this as the release date approaches. The Reminders bring a lifetime of music to the stage and the studio. They love doing this, you can tell. Their sound is a unique blend of Americana and Folk Rock with deep roots in blues, country and gospel. Audiences across the country have agreed, with overwhelming enthusiasm, that they need to do it more often. They just have that wonderful chemistry that is so hard to define, but so much fun to see and hear. Individually, they’ve been honored by the Recording Industry Association of America (The Grammy people), the National Endowment for the Arts, Billboard Magazine, ASCAP, BMI, and many others. You don’t wanna miss them live. They’ve done enough in their careers to get you there, they’ll do enough live to get you comin’ back.  Episode 4 Give Me A Break Radio Featuring Jim Parker Songwriter Series | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4214

Jim is the creator and host of a popular series at the Von Braun Center Playhouse in Huntsville, AL called Jim Parker’s Songwriters Series© where he showcases the incredible talent of his hit songwriter friends from Nashville, Muscle Shoals, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Canada and surrounding areas. The dinner-theater atmosphere has created a highly anticipated monthly event where people listen to great songs from the people who wrote them and here the stories behind their songs. Without the songwriter there would be no music because “it all begins with a song.” All it took was holding his first guitar at the age of eighteen (1961) that was given to him by his sister’s boyfriend, Jimmy Gilmer, who had a hit song in the sixties called Sugar Shack. Within a year he was playing in a band and later became a founding member of The Illusions and landed a record deal with Dot Records. In the early sixties he and his buddies decided to leave their hometown of Amarillo, Texas, and head to Los Angeles. During that time, The Illusions became The Kitchen Cinq recording with Lee Hazelwood’s LHI label for three years and this later led to jobs with other recording bands like Armageddon and THEM (post Van Morrison) with some studio work with various recording artists Sonny and Cher on the side. One example is Sonny & Cher.
