I had a super fantastic week. I was out late last night with my son and his baseball team, they’re about to start a baseball tournament and in order to kickoff the tournament they went to the local Major League Baseball AA farm team game together as a team. It was really awesome. They’re 10-years-old, they love baseball, they love playing together, it’s a really cool team and we’re excited about the tournament that’s coming up this weekend. They started playing on Friday. They have pool play, which means they kind of randomly assign to each other and based on a couple of pool play games they’ll be assigned to a single elimination bracket. They will play through the weekend until only one team is left standing as the champion. We’ll see how that goes. We’re very excited about that, as we always are whenever it’s time to play baseball. It’s a lot of fun. I was out late last night,

Drop Shipping Basics: Starting Your Own Drop Shipping-Based eCommerce Business [LNIM143] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2766

In this episode, I explain Drop Shipping Basics using AliExpress, Shopify and Oberlo.  As you recall, I have been working on a drop shipping eCommerce business for a few month now, and have had some success.  Because of that work, I have been getting lots of questions about drop shipping, and so I decided to explain the basics in this episode. Drop Shipping Basics Show Notes   If you were to open a drop shipping store today, what are the things that you should do? For today’s show, let will break this down and we will talk about how eCommerce works in general, how drop shipping works specifically and how you can start with a very low budget. Free Drop Shipping Webinar What to learn all about how to drop ship with Shopify and AliExpress?  Check out this amazing free webinar from our friends at Shopify. What is Drop Shipping, how does this work and why is it appealing? The idea behind drop shipping is that you do marketing for a product that you do not yet physically possess and then actually sell it. It is about finding a whole seller who makes the product and sells it to you at a cheaper price and then actually ships it directly to your customer. This is appealing because whoever is doing the drop shipping ends up being responsible for production, warehouse, handling and fulfillment. To get the margins that you need, sometimes you will get the products from China and one of the challenges that you might run into would be product quality and shipping time. A lot of people had benefitted from the ecommerce model where you buy things and store them in your bedroom but the challenge in this model is the fact that will have to worry about being stuck with a bulk of times. If you decide to go with drop shipping, you will not be stuck with a whole bedroom full of product – you just got to find a supplier and they will do the shipping and fulfillment for you.  If in case the product you choose really took off, you can work out a deal with your supplier and with the track record that you have already established, you can opt to go back to the previous model for a better profit margin.   If you are to start a Drop Shipping Store, what would you do? There are only a few steps and they are very low risk: 1. Pick a niche of products that you want to sell. If you already have an established website dealing with a certain niche, you can use that existing platform. If you do not, start imagining a niche where people are making impulse buys in a relatively frequent basis and you can observe this behavior in Facebook. 2. Look around the amazing products at AliExpress. This is the Amazon of China and it is not strictly a drop shipping shop. There are all kinds of stuff here in ridiculously low prices and the more novel an item is, the more successful you will be in selling it. The right price for something is what people will pay. Once you find your products, check out what shipping is available from China. There is this thing called ePacket which is this agreement between the Hong Kong and the US Post Offices where you can ship something out of China and get a valid US tracking number. With this, you can ship something out of China and get a USPS tracking number which you can give to your customer for them to track their shipment online. The shipping time is still slow but it is still better that the traditional shipping methods from China and it’s trackable. For impulse buys, in general, people tolerate the long wait as they do not really need them. 3. Strategize on how to sell your product. If you have an existing website, you can add Woo Commerce in your WordPress plug ins. It is a great, low cost solution to get ecommerce up and running in your website. Now, if you do not have a website, sign up for a free trial in Shopify.

Conversion Tips and Tactics : Three Simple Ways To Increase Conversions and Sell More [LNIM142] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1748

These three simple conversion tips and tactics can make the difference between profitability and failure.  Use them and sell more.  Ignore them, and you may find that you can't pay the bills.  On this week's podcast, I talk about my commerce project on Shopify, and how that has reminded me of some key things. Conversion Tips and Tactics Show Notes   All conversions require optimization. A lot of times, conversion can be relatively inexpensive, high leverage, low hanging fruit to increase your revenue is to work on your conversion rate. Here are some tactics to master: Creating a sense of urgency and scarcity – A timer or statements like ‘act now as supplies are limited’ are examples of this. This is a decision that you need to make as a marketer and sometimes it ends up to be an ethical decision as you may introduce false scarcity.  In my opinion, if you are going to have a sale, you really got to change the price after then of the period you have mentioned or take the product off the market after its expiry. But whatever you do, I think it is good to add some scarcity into the mix. Customer Testimonials – this is controversial in the e-commerce space but a lot of people are comfortable putting in fake customer testimonials. I will never do that but what I can do is to take testimonials from suppliers and place them in my websites as they are. Testimonials and reviews are more powerful if they come from real customers but if you document where your testimonials are coming from, those are fine.  These are needed to improve conversion as people are now built to check them out before purchase. Risk Reduction or Reversal – this is where you are giving your customer something to gain if they are not happy with the product.  Examples can include money back guarantees, putting trust seals on your site and displaying them prominently, and 30-day risk-free returns. Do not fear to have your items returned as you need to give people this option. You will learn that there are lots of few returns than you can possibly imagine. Those returned won’t cost you that much and if there are a lot, then you have the opportunity to fix that.   Links Mentioned In This Episode On Conversion Tips and Tactics * Rate this podcast on iTunes * Ray Edwards Copywriting Academy * He Who Hesitates Is Lost  * Shopify Want More Late Night Internet Marketing?  Day Job Secrets: Should You Tell Your Boss About Your Side Gig? [LNIM141] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2056

Day Job Secrets can be hard to keep.  This week we take a look at some issues listener Phil has been facing at his day job.  Phil's side gig is closely related to his day job and involves a troll.  That makes the discussion pretty interesting.  We have some recommendations for Phil (who is plenty savvy enough to handle the situation without any help) — it's just fun (and helpful) to talk about. We also look at some unusual email marketing tips, and we discuss why you should “Bring Your Own Weather” with you everywhere you go. Day Job Secrets Show Notes   So you have this side business that you are passionate about. How do you let your boss know about it? Or should you? * When you are working on something for your side business that is related, in any way, to what you are doing in your day job, it is a smart move to talk to the people that you trust in your company. Let them know what you are doing and make sure that they are okay with it. Enlightened employers will even love this when they see the benefits to the company. * Never, ever work on your side business while you are at your day job. Do not cross the beams. You do not want to give anybody the impression that you are using the company’s resources and time in order to advance the state of your business.  You will always encounter people – bloggers and the people who post comments, podcasters and their listeners — who will criticize and bring you down to their level. In my experience, these people have some fundamental issues going on where they may be jaded or have a scarcity mentality and they feel they have to come at you publicly and in the most inappropriate ways. So how do you deal with haters? * Don’t feed the troll. The most you can ever do is to say, ‘Hey, thanks for your input. I’ll consider what you said.’ Treat the person with respect, whether he deserves it or not, then analyze if there is any truth to what he said so you can find value to it, if it is there. Remove the tone, the attitude and focus on the data. Take that tiny, little nugget of information, set the rest of it aside and forget about it. * Consider checking with your boss to see if everything is fine and if there is a need for you to take action. Air it out and ensure you are still on the same page. Be prepared for the possible outcome though. If it’s leaning on the negative, at least you know about it upfront and you can agree on timelines.   Links Mentioned In This Episode On Day Job Secrets * Rate this podcast on iTunes * Ross at PaidInsights.com * 12 Email Marketing Fundamentals To Master Want More Late Night Internet Marketing?  How To Get Started Online: What To Do When You Are Just Starting Out [LNIM140] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1784

This week we tackle a question that I get all of the time — How To Get Started Online.  Let's face it, getting a business up and running can be overwhelming when you are first getting started.  What new people need is the big picture that explains how to navigate the online jungle, and that's just what I provide in this episode. I also talk about a 10-year-old SEO article and how remarkably accurate it is still today. Get Started Online Show Notes   You want to have an online business but how do you start? * Educate yourself about the different kinds of online business that are out there. Understand these and pick the ones which resonate to you. There are pros and cons in all these business models and here are few: * The blogging model where you write what you decide to cover and you work on monetizing your content. * Virtualizing your services by bringing it online so you can have virtual customers all over the world. * Affiliate marking where you create content specifically for the purpose of driving traffic to affiliate offers. * Creating your own content by becoming an authority I your space through podcasts, blogs, YouTube channel and creating digital products for sale. * Creating content and collecting ad revenue such as in the gaming industry. * The eBay business models where you buy and resell things. * The e-commerce models where you drop ship things. * Sell things in Amazon. * Research your choice and become familiar with the thought leaders around that business model. Further narrow down what it is that you want to do and find a person/s who is currently successful at doing things in the niche you have chosen. Avoid the temptation of multiple gurus across multiple business models. Find someone you know you can trust and focus on following the person on your way to success. * Invest. Spend the resources that you have wisely to get to the place where you want to get to and spend it in a way which maximizes return on investment. You can find free content and spend time and effort consuming them but you can also trade time for money by buying courses. * Focus through to success. Once you decide what you will be working on and who to follow, do your best to drive this thing into completion. Drive this from start to profit. Do not get distracted by something new and end by stuck in the messy middle.   Here's my little butterfly that I mentioned at the end of the episode.   Links Mentioned In This Episode On Blog Content Ideas * Rate this podcast on iTunes * Chris Holdheide at SideHustleAcademy.com * Podcast Dallas on Meetup.com * 55 SEO Tips (the 2016 version) * 55 SEO Tips (the 2008 version) * Archive.org * The Wayback Machine Want More Late Night Internet Marketing?  Blog Content Ideas: How To Write A Post Even When You Are Stuck [LNIM139] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1819

When you run out of blog content ideas, you can feel desperate and alone.  Well, perhaps that's a slightly dramatic characterization, but you get the idea.  Running out of ideas stinks.  In this episode, I talk about how you will never have to worry about running out of blog content ideas again — ever. Blog Content Ideas Show Notes   Create a content editorial calendar – you can use this to jot down exactly what you can talk about for the rest of the year. Use a Headline Generator – if you need an idea for the specific title you want to put in, you can also use a headline generator. It will inspire you to write helpful content using headlines that are really attention-grabbing that will help you with your social media exposure. The title is a tiny percentage of the battle but if you do not have an idea or a title, it’s a 100% of the battle – and that’s where you are. The Anatomy of an Effective Blog Post – use this template which contains six components that your article should have: * Compelling Title – lure your readers in with attention-grabbing, sassy headlines. * Lead Paragraph – once you get those eyeballs to read your first paragraph, capture their attention, give them a reason to read the rest of the article and make their investment worth it. * Relevant Image – use iStockPhoto and Depositphotos. * Personal Experience – this is your unfair competitive advantage. There are things that are unique to you that you can use to help a specific set of people. Open up and share personal stories so you have the opportunity to find them. * Main Body – this is where the meat is so you need to deliver. Don’t write a thesis or a giant wall of text. Small, bite-sized content is the most effective. * Discussion Question – create a conversation. Be approachable, ask people what you think. And if they leave a comment, respond.  Online Business: How To Finish Projects (Even When You Are Stuck) [LNIM138] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2331

In this episode we talk about how to finish projects, even if you are stuck.  We often start projects with gusto, only to get lost in the messy middle and fizzle out.  I offer there ways to deal with this situation in this episode.  We also talk about How to Finish Projects Show Notes   In the projects that we are working on, there is a section that can be called ‘the messy middle’. You set these goals to whatever it is that you want to do and do it with so much passion and excitement when you imagine the outcome. On the onset, there is a flurry of activity and you make a lot of progress but after a while, that enthusiasm starts to wane, you encounter obstacles, things are harder and longer than you expected and all of a sudden, you find yourself in the messy middle. A lot us doesn’t make it and these become unfinished projects. So here are some tips for you to survive the messy middle: * Once you have committed to a project, stay focused and say no to other opportunities. Drive your projects from start to profit. When you start, inspiration is great but after that, perspiration is the key. Stays focused and do the work. * Recommit to the project. Go back and understand why you are doing what you are doing and re-decide that this is important. Try to find that original motivation that got you excited and recommit yourself. Emotionally reconnect to the project and that will drive you forward. When lose sight of our why, we lose our fuel so reaffirm your commitment to your project. * Change the plan. You had a goal and a plan to execute but one of the reasons that you may be stuck is that unexpected things happened. As the quote goes, ‘No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy.’ Your enemy might be life and all its surprises thereby your original plan may no longer be valid. But that is not a reason to fret – just go ahead and make a new plan. The objective is still the same but you may just need to revise some aspects in the project to get through the messy middle. Do not give up on things that you really should be doing. But it’s okay to reassess and should you really ever need to quit, you must be sure that it is for the right reasons.  Online Business Accounting Tips For New Entrepreneurs [LNIM137] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1797

In this episode, I offer a few simple online business accounting tips that will help you decide how important it is to register your own corporation, open a business bank account and buy business accounting software like Quickbooks or Freshbooks.  These are questions I get all the time, and they are fresh in my mind as I crank up my drop shipping business, which will have a big impact on how I handle my accounting. I also mention the fact that my buddy Cliff is about to start another Podcasting A to Z class. Online Business Accounting Tips Show Notes   Should I form a corporation? In terms of taxes, there is no big impact as most of us are part-time entrepreneurs and we are not making millions of dollars a year with our side businesses. Even if you form an LLC, what’s just going to happen typically is that you will file your normal tax forms, place a schedule that describes your business and pay something like your regular income taxes on a monthly basis. Once you are making more money though, consult a tax attorney to understand what’s best for you in your business. If you are a new entrepreneur, you get tangled up with all these financial questions about whether or not you form a corporation and all that but what you really need to focus on is creating value. Printing business cards, working on graphics for your website footer, forming corporations are just going to distract you from the business of getting out there and creating value that people will pay you for. This can wait until you are making money. Why is it important to keep finances completely and totally separate from your personal finances? Go down to your bank and inform them that you will start a new business so you will need a separate checking account and saving accounts and only use these things in your business. This goes to say in your PayPal account and your credit cards. On a monthly basis, this also makes it easier for you to tally up all your expenses and income and understand whether or not you are making money in your business. If you have a business, treat it like a business wherein you have some kind of profit and loss analysis. If the time comes that something bad will happen to your business and you are in a legal situation where someone is suing your for money, keeping your personal and business finances will help you in terms of liability protection. What do I do about bookkeeping? Get started with an excel spreadsheet. Some people do not even recognize the problem until it is tax time and they dig out all receipts so they can show expenses off of the income they have generated for the year. Start with excel or other online tools but if this is not something that you are comfortable doing, get a bookkeeper to periodically collect your information and do all the things necessary to keep your books current. There are virtual bookkeepers who you can tap. If you are going to file an income tax as a business, you are going to file a schedule along with your income taxes and one important piece of this is a chart of accounts. If you are going to do your books yourself, pay an accountant additional money to help you set up a proper chart of accounts. In this way, when your business is small, you can use a properly constructed chart of accounts on your own and when it grows you can just hand it off to a trained accountant.   Links Mentioned In This Episode * Quickbooks * Freshbooks * WaveApps * Cool article on 15% unknown searches in Google * The Late Night IM Facebook Group *

Procrastination Tips: Overcoming Fear and Uncertainty [LNIM136] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2068

This week, I offer sever procrastination tips for those of us that suffer from procrastination due to fear and uncertainty.  You might not even realize it, but often times, procrastination can come not knowing what to do (uncertainty) or being afraid of the outcome (fear).  Fear of failure is a common case of the latter.  Do you suffer from procrastination?  Do you know why?  Understanding why you procrastinate is an important first step, and if you find that fear is the culprit then I have a few tips for you on how to over come that fear and get moving. I also discuss Help Scout, which is my go-to solution for customer service. As I mentioned in the episode, I will be hosting a special daily discussion of the coming ConvertKit Product Creation Masterclass in the Late Night Internet Marketing Facebook group.  If you'd like to join us, just enroll in the free masterclass below. If you are interested in creating your first product, this might be just what you need to get you over the hump. Procrastination Tips Show Notes   Call the Fear Out – this is the first key to overcoming a fear-based procrastination. Shine a light on the fear as the bad guys always operate in the dark. These fears that create procrastination only exist because you have not examined them for what they are worth. Take the time to identify what your fear is and illuminate it to own it and recognize that it is not a big of a deal. Have the Right Information – do a little more research for you to be successful in what you are focusing on but not too aggressively as this can turn into another form of procrastination. Bite Off Small Chunks – eat the elephant one bite at a time. Operating in small chunks can be a way to push forward from what’s holding you back through the fears that you have which cause procrastination. Support and Accountability – having people who you can talk to, to encourage you and to hold you accountable for making progress can be a big and important thing. People who had experienced your fears can help you work through this and that can be a very good advantage.   Links Mentioned In This Episode * ConvertKit Product Creation Masterclass * The Late Night IM Facebook Group * Help Scout * 100K Factory program Want More Late Night Internet Marketing?  Shopify SEO Tips — Search Optimization for eCommerce [LNIM135] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1947

I often get requests for Shopify SEO Tips — people who are trying to do search engine optimization for eCommerce.  The truth of the matter is that most eCommerce sites don't pay much attention to SEO, so with a little work you can often crush the competition when it comes to SEO.  In this episode, I talk about 4 tips that you can use today to immediately improve your eCommerce SEO. Shopify SEO Tips Show Notes Four solid tips which can help you get more traffic to your Shopify store for free: * Make sure that you have a strong listing – people would just usually copy the few pieces of information that are available to them from the drop shipper. This would just include the size and the weight but void of real descriptions which will help people understand the product and would give Google something to chew on. Have at least a thousand words for your product listing. Start with the product that you are most interested in seeing on the top searches and write copies for those using the PASTOR method: call out the problem that the prospect has; amplify the pain that the prospect is feeling making sure you know the consequences of this problem; offer a solution to the problem by telling a story about how your solution is effective; overload with testimonies about the transformation brought about by your solution; make honest, win-win offers; and ask the customer a response to the offer.  Don’t just put any thousand words and do not put the sales/buy button so far down the page that it will decrease your conversions. Test your copy as well. * Take advantage of the blog feature in Shopify – some people do not realize that Shopify has this feature. Target words which have high commercial intent but do not directly relate to your product. Answer helpful content questions then at the end of the article, you can add in that you have that product available in your store. Provide an internal link to your sales page after that. As people link to your blog, it increases your authority; and it also attracts visitors from Google to your page and drives traffic to your Spotify page. This can be easily outsourced to Upwork for a reasonable price. * Optimize your Shopify title tag, SEO description and URL – optimize the page slug for your product, the title for your product page and your product description for searches. Make sure the keywords are those that you want to be ranked for and for the description, write them as compelling as you can to entice people to click even if you are not in the very top listing of the page. * Build back links to your site – A few quality links back to your page will go a long way. Typically, you can get these through two ways: links that you leave around the internet in response to your product area (blog posts, forums, reddit) and blog posts which reference to your product inside the post. The latter can be easily bought from refutable sources. These can make a huge difference in your ranking results.   Links Mentioned In This Episode * ConvertKit Product Creation Masterclass * The Late Night IM Facebook Group * The Hoth * PosiRank * 100K Factory program

Show Notes   When you get into the Facebook Ad Manager, you may not be aware of this but you can choose whether you use the ad manager that’s attached to your personal Facebook account or you upgrade to the business ad manager, which is a more heavy-weight version, for free. The business ad manager allows you to manage multiple properties or pixels. To be organized, you need to understand there items: campaigns, ad sets and ads. Campaign – this contains or is made up of one or more ad sets. It is important to know that each campaign has an advertising objective. This is the beginning in structuring your advertising activity on Facebook. You will use the Ads Create Tool to create the campaign by defining the objective on what you are trying to accomplish with your ads — do you want more page likes, clicks to your website, conversions, getting engagement or app installs, responses to your event, views to your video, etc. This is where you can easily turn your campaign on or off and where you can look at performance. Ad Sets – this contain one or more ads or basically, a collection of ads. This is where you are going to make a decision on who your ads are targeting, what your budget is, the schedule for running your ads, bidding for the ads, where you are going to place them, etc. All of these happen in the ad set level. Two totally different audiences will need two different ad sets with different graphics, appeal and calls to action. They will work differently as well so your targeting for each ad set should be different. You can set daily and lifetime budgets for these ad campaigns at this level. Ads – the creatives that you actually make, the ad that you actually run. You will have different ads for different target audiences thereby you can have different creative pieces which are effective in different ways.  You can test these different creatives to understand which one works the best. By their automatically split testing inside the ads manager, Facebook will be able to figure out which one is the most effective, optimizing your campaign to the fullest for that certain demographic.   Links Mentioned In This Episode * 100K Factory program * Facebook Business Ad Manager * Article about drop-shipping with AliExpress on the Shopify blog * Late Night Internet Marketing Facebook Group Want More Late Night Internet Marketing?  What Is A Facebook Pixel [LNIM133] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1857

The other day, someone asked me to explain the Facebook pixel.  Now I'm no Facebook advertising expert, but I'll never forget the first time I noticed that brands were “following me” from their websites back to Facebook.  To be honest, it was a little creepy. It turns out that these brands were using a technology called an ad pixel and they were “retargeting me”.  This is accomplished on Facebook with the now0famous Facebook pixel. In this episode, I spend some time explaining what the Facebook Pixel is and what you can do with it. I also recap my experience at Social Media Marketing World and revisit the four goals I had for the conference.  I accomplished all of my goals for the trip, and I tell you how and why they are important at the top of the episode. Finally, I discuss the advertising promotion Amazon is running for April.  If you are an Amazon affiliate, you won't want to miss that. Show Notes For our tech tip today, we will talk about what a Facebook Pixel is. Have you ever experienced going to a certain website and, upon going back to Facebook, you will see that same product pop up? It turns out that, if you are an advertiser in Facebook, you can get this little snippet of code called the Facebook Pixel and you can place that in your website so when people visit your site, they will be cookied with it. Conversion pixels have been used in marketing, particularly affiliate marketing and other advertising firms, well over a decade. The Facebook Pixel is a super smart pixel as there are lot of things that it can do for your website such as: * Once someone visits your website, the Facebook pixel can keep track of actions done within your site. Knowing these things will allow you to understand all kinds of different information in marketing. * When someone visits your site and then they went back to Facebook, you can target these people with Facebook ads because you know they have some sort of interest in your site. * You can have Facebook take a look at the people who visited you recently and ask them to serve your ads to these same types of people – demographically, by age range, etc. * Run dynamic product ads where you can change the ads you present based on the actual pages that they have visited on your website. * You can understand cross-device conversion. Bottom line is, you can optimize ads better in Facebook because it goes beyond advertising there. Even if they are gone, you can still track their behavior even when they are out of the platform and you can use this to analyze actions and increase the ROI for your ads. It enables you to do a lot more sophisticated things. As promised in the episode, here is a screenshot of what Amazon native ads look like.  The context of the ad changes based on your browsing habits on amazon (retargeting) apparently.  Here, you can see that I have been looking at home automation, ring lights for my Facebook live stuff, and hourglass timers for productivity.  Why I Invest In Social Media Marketing World [LNIM132] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1810

Why attend conferences? That's a pretty darn good question.  Someone asked me recently why I choose to invest in conferences like Social Media Marketing World each year.  After all, the actual cost of attending a conference is not small when you consider the airfare, hotel and conference registration. But more than the actual cost is the opportunity cost.  For me personally, spending days at a conference carries the cost of not doing other things.  This week, I'll be falling behind on my podcast, taking time off my day job and missing my daughter's soccer game all so I can participate in Social Media Marketing World. So why attend conferences? As it happens, I have five very clear reasons for investing (that's how I see it) in conferences, and Social Media Marketing World is at the top of my “must attend” list. Also in this episode, I discuss how DropBox saved me last week and offer a few tips on using DropBox.  If you're not using DropBox, you might want to give it another look.  Not only that, I take a look at this quote commonly attributed to John Wesley that he probably never said: I set myself on fire and people come to watch me burn. Show Notes   1. “Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.” – This quote is attributed to John Wesley but often misquoted. There is also a significant amount of debate among legitimate historians if he really said it, but whatever the case is, I love this for marketing. Whoever said this quote, our enthusiasm should have this same level of intensity. When people sense this, they will be attracted to your brand, to your message and will help you rise above everyone else. Note though that passion is not enough, it should also be overlain with purpose. You may have passion but it may not be suitable for business so go for sustainable interest as there will be a lot more opportunity for you to be successful. 2. Dropbox is a cloud synching service where any file you put in Dropbox will appear in any other system that you installed Dropbox on. Here are tips of how you can get the most out of Dropbox: • You can get a basic account with 2GB worth of space but you can refer Dropbox to your friends and every sign up will give you additional 500MB. A cool way to start! • If you delete a file, Dropbox keeps it for 30 days. You can restore files and folders back if you realize you still need them. • You can set Dropbox to automatically seek out and upload photos from your mobile. Awesome! • Dropbox offers two-step verification so turn this on for extra security. • Dropbox is the perfect solution for sharing monster files. • You can turn on the Selective Synch feature so you can choose the directories or devices that you want to synch it with. • A lot of cross platform applications that exist both on Android, Mac or PC shares settings with Dropbox. 3. Why am I going to Social Media Marketing World? It’s expensive so what’s the point? Here is a list of why I bother: • It is an opportunity for me to reconnect with people that I have met over the last 10 years both online and in real life. This is something that I really enjoy so this is fulfilling for me. For my Mastermind group, this is the one time every week that we can all be physical together so I highly value this. • It gives me an opportunity to meet new people and add them to my list of friends. Getting this opportunity and exposure to people I do not usually rub elbows with is very rewarding. • There is an enormous amount of content in this conference. The number of ideas that I come out with is amazing. • I am privileged that I can help and give answers. I have given a talk, hosted a panel and led sessions. This opens up opportunities and gave me the chance to say thanks.

UTM Parameters and Google Analytics: Understand Where Your Traffic Is Coming From [LNIM131] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2060

Ever wondered about UTM Parameters and Google Analytics?  Urchin Tracking Module Parameters are essentially special “tags” that you can add to links so that you can track the traffic generated by those links in Google Analytics.  Admittedly, these links can look a little intimidating.  So, in this episode, I explain UTM parameters for Google Analytics in a way that I hope most people will be able to understand. I also talk about customer service lessons we can all learn from my recent visit to Hotel Contessa in San Antonio, Texas and my we break down another Internet Marketing Fortune Cookie (this time it's the Crab Rangoon). UTM Secret Decoder Ring The Secret Decoder Ring Download is a single-page PDF that you can keep handy and share whenever you need to remember how UTM parameters work, and what they mean. Get Your UTM Parameter Decoder Ring Now Show Notes   Internet Marketing Fortune Cookie: “A crab wonton a day, keeps the doctor away” – The stuff that got you to wherever you are in your business may not get you to where you need to be so strategically and carefully, but enthusiastically, embrace change in your business because this will keep the ‘doctor’ away. UTM Parameters:  A link is comprised of three parts: the HTTP/s, the website or the domain name, and the stuff after that which you would usually think as the post slug but it’s really the path to the file on the web server. But occasionally, you will see that the path that you are looking at is followed by a question mark and after this, a bunch of symbols, letters, numbers that may seem gibberish. In here, you will also see the three letters U, T and M. This section is called UTM Parameters and it stands for Urchin Tracking Module. These are tags that you can put in URLs to help you figure out where you traffic comes from. If you are running a Facebook ad, for example, you can add these tags to your URL so that you know later exactly where that traffic came from. It’s important for you to know which ads are sending traffic to your site to determine which ones to run and which ones to stop. What’s really cool about this is you can use the conversion goal inside of Google Analytics to nail down what source of traffic is really creating opt ins or sales for you on your website. There are four that I use when I do UTMs: * The Source Parameter – this is used to identify which sites sent traffic. It’s a required parameter and examples include Facebook, Twitter, Google or Bing. * The UTM Medium – this refers to the type of link that was used and is usually described as the type of advertising medium that you are using to send the traffic. It can be from social, banner ads, cost-per-click ads, etc. * The Campaign Parameter – you can set this to determine which campaign the traffic is coming from. Examples can be special content campaign or a seasonal campaign such as a Spring Sales or a Halloween Promotion. * The Content Parameter – this can help you identify specifically which ad was clicked to bring the user to the site. This is often used for AB testing so it can refer to the logo, a text in the ad or which one worked in sending you the traffic. Now that you can track things, you might be looking for additional information about optimizing your conversions.  If so, take a moment to check out episode 126 on conversion optimization. Here are some of the images that I mentioned in the episode.  First of all, here is a picture of me with “Hispanic Elvis”.  That's his description, not mine.  This guy hangs out at the old market in San Antonio (on Market Street) in a restaurant called Mi Tierra.  I've been eating there since I was a kid,

Amazon Affiliate Commission Changes: How Will They Impact Your Business? [LNIM130] | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1803

Really big Amazon affiliate commission changes a few weeks ago may have a dramatic impact on your paychecks coming from the big online retailer.  Learn all about what changed, why I think Amazon is making the change, and what you can to if you are impacted. Show Notes   Do I still recommend as a place to start if you are an affiliate marketer? Yes, I absolutely do. It’s still a great way to start and to learn affiliate marketing. I would probably just recommend that you stay away from things that have incredibly low commissions – but we have always discussed that you should promote things that give you a decent commission. It means that some niches that you may have considered before may no longer be economically or commercially viable niche.   Why did Amazon do this and anger affiliates? There are more than 3100 products affected in this tier and in my understanding, Amazon phone all those affected directly. The answer is always because this will make Amazon more money. Amazon is in the business of making money and not in the business of creating great affiliate programs. For televisions, for example, the competition is fierce and the margins are already super low and they cannot afford to lose more money. For those which they raised the commissions, they have the room to do so, so they are trying to compensate with that, or they are trying to drive behavior to sell as many high-margined products as much as possible.   If you are affected, what do you do? Look and see if there are other affiliate programs that you can use in place of Amazon if you have been hit particularly hard to see if you can get back to your original commission level. There are also other places like Commission Junction where you might share a sale. You might find a retailer there who happens to sell TVs, for example, who are offering higher commissions than 2%.   Lesson: Change is always constant in this business. Use Pretty Link because if something happens to your affiliate relationship with some supplier, then you can change suppliers without having to edit 40k pages in your website. It makes it easy to maintain your website.   In the episode, I mention the new Associates commission structure.  You can find this information on the Amazon site here, but I have reproduced the relevant graphic below.  As you can see, by Amazon standards, furniture and home goods pay pretty well at 10%.
