MW036-Adding Affiliate Products To Your Existing Product Line (and more) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, I go through more awesome feedback.  This time we talk about mixing affiliate products with your own products, we discuss clickbank, and I give an update to the Corn Sheller site. This is the 36th episode.  My new home office furniture is in and  the studio has been reassembled.  I am back to the weekly publishing schedule again, and the next episode is expected Thursday Sept 27.  Well, we can hope for that anyway. In This Show... Corn Sheller site at cornsheller.net. Here are the most recent traffic stats: As I mention in the podcast, traffic is up, and so is earnings for the site. And finally, here is the Fiver Gig that I used Is it OK to mix affiliate products with products you create? My answer to this listener question is basically that the answer is "yes" as long as you put the customer first. We also discuss clickbank and the fact that I am looking for ideas for a free webinar. Let me know what you think. Episode 036 Transcript Adding Affiliate Products To Your Existing Product Line (and more) How’s everybody doing? It’s great to be back. It seems like I was just on the mic – Wait, I was just on the mic a couple of nights ago. I’m getting recovered from getting my studio torn apart. I’ve got most everything back together. You can tell that this is a more normal sound for me, you’re not hearing all those condenser microphone background noises like tapping on the table and stuff like that. That’s because in the studio set up you don’t have that kind of mess and that helps a lot. Thanks for bearing with me on that last episode. I hope you enjoyed the feedback episode. We’re going to work in some more feedback during this episode, but we’re going to try to get back to some more hard core affiliate marketing topics and stay off the more cerebral “should I be making money from making money online” kind of topics for awhile. Although, I guarantee we’ll keep coming back to that because that just continues to be an issue. If you didn’t get a chance to listen to episode 35, I encourage you to do that and leave your comments on the show notes. Transcript continued from the Episode 036 Show notes

 MW035 – Feedback About Making Money Online | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:54

In this episode, I spend time going through some awesome feedback about Pat Flynn and try to decide if it is OK to make money online teaching how to make money online. This is the 35th episode. The weekly schedule was wrecked by new home office furniture (studio was wrecked).  I will be back to the weekly publishing schedule again Thursday Sept 20.  As always, I will keep trying until I can make it happen on a regular basis. In This Show... In this show, I discuss: The North Dallas Late Night Meetup -- a huge success last Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Londoner Pub in Allen. Episode 035 Transcript Feedback About Making Money Online I am in complete and total podcasting disarray. Those of you that follow me on Twitter (@MasonWorld) you’ve probably seen the crazy pictures coming from my house where I’ve completely disassembled my entire studio; microphone, mixer, compressor, limiter, gate – everything is in a big pile and a box on my floor because I’m getting new office furniture. Of course all the cables and everything had to be disconnected because they were all tangled up in the office furniture. So if I sound a little funny it’s only because all my gear is still in a box and I’m podcasting on my old condenser microphone, no headphones and doing it the old school way. I’m actually set up on a little plastic card table in the corner while waiting on the furniture, which comes on Wednesday – I’m actually recording this on Monday night. Two days from now I’ll have my hands full of hooking that stuff all back up. Check out the pictures, I’ll try to throw a few pictures of the big mess into the show notes and you can check them out there. Today is the much awaited feedback episode. Thank you so much to everyone who submitted feedback. We’re going to go through as many as we can. We certainly won’t get to them all because it’s a 30 minute show and we’ve got more than 30 minutes worth of feedback. I do appreciate everyone who has called in with feedback. We will eventually get to tall the feedback. Before we do that, I wanted to share with you a reaction that I had recorded the other day to an email unsubscribe that I got in my inbox. Episode 034 Transcript 6 Reasons Why Affiliate Marketing Is The Best Way To Start An Internet Business I mentioned in the last episode of the podcast that I was heading down to my grandmother’s and I’m on the road headed to Houston from Dallas. I’m actually currently in Farris, Texas. Looking at my schedule I thought with everything going on during the holiday weekend and all the stuff I have going on for the short work week at my day job next week, if I don’t create some content prior to next Thursday I’m going to be late yet again with the next episode of the Mason World Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast, and I didn’t want to do that. We’re going to talk about a couple of things during the podcast today while I’m on the road. I wanted to do what I failed to do last week and give you an update on the corn sheller site and the snoring site that we’ve been working on. If this is your first time listening to the podcast you may not be aware that I’m live building a couple of affiliate sites. One is at CornSheller.net and the other one is at URL that I haven’t disclosed but it’s around the keyword of snoring solutions.

I’ve had a very exiting week here in Dallas and one of the things that I wanted to tell you about was that I have settled on a date for the North Dallas Internet Marketing Meetup that we’ll be doing in Allen, Texas. You can find out about that at MasonWorld.com/meetup. That will take you to a blog post that will tell you that the first meetup is scheduled for September 11th and I’ve actually put a Facebook event out, there’s a link to that on the Facebook fan page. We’ve got several people that are coming. Some have shown up on the Facebook page, some have emailed me and said they’re going to be there. We’re going to do that at a pub in Allen called The Londoner Pub. I’d love to have you there. I think we’re currently planning to start this thing at 8:30 PM, after all it is Late Night Internet Marketing. We’ll get to the pub, have a few beers, maybe throw back an appetizer or two. Don’t worry, if you’re not into beer they have Diet Coke there as well. I’d love to see you there if you can make it on September 11th. It’s going to be a totally laid back good time. Hope we’ll see you there. Transcript continued from the Episode 033 Show notes

MW032 – Why I Podcast, Mobile Website Plugin and much more | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, I give a shout-out to the place where 10% of my podcast downloads come from (surprisingly, not Texas).  I also talk at length about why I podcast, and about the impact the mobile devices should be having on your site. This is the 32nd episode, and I am already struggling with the weekly publishing schedule again.  Still shooting for the next episode on Thursday August 30.  As always, I will keep trying until I can make it happen. In This Show... In this show, I mention that lots of my site traffic comes from China.  I actually call China a continent in the show-- I know that China is a country and Asia is a continent.  But when it is 1AM in the morning, sometimes mistakes are made.  Here you can see almost 10% of the podcast download traffic coming from China. I mention this cool article about smartphone traffic where a 100% annual increase in visits from internet-enabled mobile devices is claimed.  I am not seeing an increase like this, but if you have not updated your site to handle mobile browsers, I suggest that you take a look at the Wordpress Plugin WPTouch. I spend lots of time talking about why I do this podcast.  Cliff Ravenscraft (in audio stolen from Podcast Answerman Episode 272) discusses some amazing statistics that he came across in a recording by Earl Nightingale called The Strangest Secret. After the show, I mention Zig Ziglar.  You can find him on Audible. Leave Us A Review In iTunes Thanks so much for your reviews on iTunes.  We get a ton of exposure from iTunes, and we really appreciate the reviews there.  At last count, we were at 30 reviews and counting.  Reviews help us get new listeners -- so I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. Episode 032 Transcript Why I Podcast, Mobile Website Plugin, and Much More… I’m really glad to be here. I hope everyone has had a fantastic several days since I’ve spoke to you last. This is Late Night Internet Marketing and we had a little shout out there to China. I did that because I was looking at my podcast stats and it’s a little crazy, but tons of traffic from China. I’m not sure what the real root source of all that traffic is, but it’s very cool. I’ve been to China many times, I really love going over there, I love the food, the whole thing. China is a really a lot of fun for me. The only problem is that China is very far from Dallas, so in order to get there you have to ride in the aluminum torture tube for a long time and I don’t like that part. Super Cool Website Plugin for Voice Messages and Feedback I wanted to make a little administrative announcement here. My buddy Cliff, who we’re going to be hearing from later in the episode as we play some unauthorized audio from Cliff’s podcast, was talking on the Podcast Answer Man Podcast the other day about this cool tool call Speak Pipe. Speak Pipe is a really neat tool that you can add to your website so that people can give you voice feedback. What I’m doing is I’m giving you yet another way to leave me feedback. I do want to do a monthly question and answer podcast once a month, so I’m really looking for that feedback.

 MW031 – AdSense Alternatives for Publishers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:17

In this episode, I answer a listener question about Google AdSense alternatives for publishers -- specifically, we look at what you can do if your AdSense account is terminated. We also talk about my trip to Mexico where I swam with dolphins, Google's new censorship campaign, affiliate marketing basics and more. This is the 31st episode, and I am back on a weekly publishing schedule.  Hopefully that will stick.  As always, I will keep trying until I can make it happen. In This Show... Special thanks to random Dolphins for kicking off the show.  As I mention in the show, I just got home from Mexico where I had the opportunity to swim with Dolphins.  Very cool indeed.  Here, you can see a picture of me getting pushed through the water by two 400 pound dolphins.  I am actually being balanced on their noses in the second picture. Two Dolphins preparing for take-off. Hang on! Balancing on the nose of two beautiful 400-pound dolphins. Dallas-Area MasonWorld Meetup Still thinking about a Dallas-Area MasonWorld Internet Marketing Meetup for listeners (and readers) in the Dallas Area.  Right now I am thinking about early September on a weeknight around 8PM in a pub (The Londoner) in Allen.  If you are interested, please be sure to leave a comment here. Crazy stuff in my inbox -- I tell you all about the listener that lives just a few hundred yards from my house.  Crazy, right? Google Censorship I was driving down the road listing to NPR, and I learned that Google announced they are going to start penalizing sites that are reported to have violated copyrights.  This worries me a little, and may be a "slippery slope" to lots of bad things.  I talk all about it in the show.  If Google starts selectively enforcing laws and moral standards, where will that stop?  You can read about it on the Google Blog. AdSense Alternatives for Publishers Dave from North Carolina has a question about what to do when you are booted out of AdSense.  I make two points: AdSense is usually not the best way to monetize your sites.  Usually, one of the many AdSense alternatives for publishers is a better choice. Try to understand how to exactly match what your traffic is looking for and place a add for that. If you want something like AdSense, here is a decent (but a little dated) list of AdSense Alternatives from Ross Walker.  Google search for AdSense Alternatives" to get lots of ideas. Other Calls From Listeners Frank wants to know how to get started in Internet Marketing.  My reply to Franks stresses the fundamentals.  He also asks about Micro Niche Finder.  Here is a video about Micro Niche Finder that I mention in my reply to Frank. Ryan has a traffic question.  What still works post-Panda?  I talk about varying anchor text and why blog networks can be a problem.  MW030 – Review Site Tips, Dallas Meetup, and more | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, we look at some review site tips -- specifically, we look at how you can get content for your review site. We also talk about my trip to DC, my nephew Greyson, some cool articles about Twitter retweets, and much more. Our 30th episode.  Woo hoo.  Still struggling to hit a weekly publishing schedule, but I will keep trying until I can make it happen. And much more.... In This Show... Special thanks to my very cool nephew Greyson for kicking off the show.  He build a rocking super computer and is working on learning how to program - all at the ripe old age of 11.  Wow!  Greyson wants to podcast, so I sent him to Cliff's excellent free podcasting course. Just got back from DC where I got an amazing tour from a blogger!!!  The guy (his name is Paul) was amazing.  Best tour ever anywhere of anything.  Check out his site at http://www.permanenttouristindc.com/ and be sure to take a tour from him next time you are in DC. Some cool articles this week Sam at Affilorama on RSS scrapers and how to defeat them. Kissmetrics post about why tweets get shared. Corn Sheller update -- Traffic is back down.  Deep Linker Pro is the resource that I mention in the discussion. Video blogging while driving -- working on a new project in the Snoring niche.  You can check out that post here. Talk about stalled experiments under the flags of the Open Niche Project and the Niche Site Duel.  Going to merge that work and focus on LearnGuitarBasics.net. Announcing Dallas-Area MasonWorld Meetup I am thinking about a Dallas-Area MasonWorld Internet Marketing Meetup for listeners (and readers) in the Dallas Area.  If you are interested, please be sure to leave a comment here. Review Site Tips -- Getting Content Of course, if you are building a review site, you are going to need some content.  Here are some review site tips about how you can get that content. Write some real product reviews. Make a list of products you plan to review, the key features you should be looking at and start writing.  Be sure to create real reviews that actually help people. Write product comparisons. Consumers are always looking for help on making an appropriate product decision and comparisons are one way to help them make the decision. I always need stuff like this myself.  Make comparison tables.  Create categories of products (ex. smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) and put together comparison charts and other useful information. Don't forget to take pictures. While photos are rarely enough on their own, they can certainly add a wealth of information to a product review. Take and publish product photos readily. Create screenshots of products used on your computer. Software makes great affiliate products.  Just like photos, you can also take a picture of your computer screen and share. You can do this with software, websites you want to demonstrate and more. Take a video of yourself demonstrating the product, of other people talking about the product, or make an unboxing video. If you’re not familiar with a product, but you know someone who is, ask them some questions and ask them to show the product in a video.  Want to learn more about unboxing videos?  Check out this content from Pat Flynn. Take a video Use the Product Reviews features of the Amazon Associates program. This allows you to display review details from Amazon on your website. NOTE: This doesn’t include actually text from the review, but shows ratings and a number of reviews, so users can click through to see them.   The product that I mention in the podcast for Amazon is phpZon (affiliate link).

Episode 029 Transcript Interview with Michelle MacPhearson It’s 1:00 in the morning in Dallas, Texas and we’re feeling fine. I’ve got a really great show for you today. It’s simple, it’s straightforward – well, it’s neither because it’s Michelle MacPhearson. I’ve got Michelle MacPhearson here. For those of you that follow Michelle, I know you’re very excited because she is totally awesome. This woman rocks internet marketing. She has so much to offer because she’s got a great personality, she’s fun to talk to, she’s been doing internet marketing since 2005. She’s done black hat, grey hat, white hat. She’s got it all, she’s got cool products and she’s here with us today. What I asked Michelle to do was talk a little bit about her journey in internet marketing, about her experience creating thousands of spammy sites back in 2006, about her product 30 Minute Backlinks which she has completely retooled. It’s a product that I have purchased personally and I like it because what that product does is it sets out a daily 30 minute backlink building activity for you every day for 365 days. That’s very cool. If you’re interested in supporting the show and taking a look at that product you can get that at MasonWorld.com/30minute. Check that product out, it’s pretty cool. No need to go through my affiliate link unless you want to. When you hear us talk about that product it’s kind of an interesting one that I recommend. It’s affordable and if you’re having trouble trying to figure out how to build backlinks that is certainly a product you want to take a look at. Transcript continued from the Episode 029 Show notes

 MW026 – Blog Deindexing Nightmare | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:12

Finally, the much promised episode about the deindexing of blog networks and Google's attack on people like us that are searching for the best way to get our pages ranked in Google and make money. Why Get Your Pages Ranked In Google? This probably seems obvious, but it's very important to understand why we want to get our pages ranked in Google.  We need to get inside of Google's head -- but to do that, we have to make sure that we understand our own head.  Why do we want Google rankings? Simply put, if we are able to get ranked on the first page of Google for a search term, then Google will send us traffic.  If we get traffic, we can turn that into money (ether directly or indirectly).  Our motivation is simply to get traffic and make money. What are Google's Goals? Oddly, Google's goals are exactly the same as our goals.  They want to get traffic to make money.  The only difference is that the vast majority of traffic that Google gets comes from people choosing Google as their search engine.  Sometimes that choice is direct as when people visit google.com, and sometimes it is because a search bar that someone is using defaults to Google.  Either way, when people choose Google, those people see Google advertisements.  That is what Google cares about.  Ad revenue.  Plain and simple. Google versus The Marketer Google retains market share by making sure that the visitor has a great experience.  In general this means that the searcher finds exactly what she is looking for right away.  In general, this means that Google is trying to present the best quality pages to the searcher for any given search term. The marketer, on the other hand, wants to outrank all other pages, no matter what the quality.  Sure, some marketers care about quality, but their primary concern is getting traffic and making money. With things like the Panda update and the many other Google changes we have to keep up with, worrying too much about search engines tweaks is rarely your best strategy. After all, there are a ton of them, “Just last year we launched over 500 changes to our algorithm so by some count we change our algorithm almost every day, almost twice over” – Amit Singhal, Google “There are almost always a set of motivating searches and these searches are not performing as well as we’d like. Ranking engineers then come up with a hypothesis about what signal, what data could we integrate into our algorithm.” – Scott Huffman, Google http://www.viperchill.com/future-of-blogging/ How Does Google Decide What To Rank? Optimize our pages and get back links. Back links are hard to get. The average person is not a web site owner, so the average person can't give a back link. Might be ok for research or info sites. Especially true for affiliate sites.   Problem: Shoppers like my mom and my wife do not have web site. The do have Facebook, however. More on that later. So if we need links and they are hard to get that creates a demand for buying links. As a result, there are thousands of article directories and many blog networks where you can by back links. You can also pay for links on existing content, and you can pay foot place content on "real blogs". The result:  Gloom and Doom in the internet universe.  Crap often ranks number 1

Episode 025 Transcript Giving Things Away and Getting Social with Cliff Ravenscraft and Shane Eubanks It’s Mark Mason and I’m back on the mic. Believe it or not, I am on the road again. Actually, I am podcasting with a blanket over my head. Yes, that’s right, I said a blanket over my head. Once upon a time I remember Jason Van Orden telling me that in his flat in Argentina when he was doing the Internet Business Mastery Podcast from Argentina that he had an echo in his flat that was so bad that the only way he could get good podcast recordings without the echo was to podcast with a blanket over his head. Of course it was really hot in Argentina and he had this blanket over his head and he’s sweating doing his podcast. I thought, “How ridiculous is that? What kind of knucklehead podcasts under a blanket?” Well, I’m in a hotel in Taiwan and I’ve got a similar problem with echo and now I’m the idiot podcasting under a blanket. If you can imagine this I’m in the Sheraton Inn in Hsinchu, Taiwan and I’ve got this fancy down comforter on the bed and I’m under this like a kid who is staying up late with a flashlight reading the comic book that he’s not supposed to be reading in the middle of the night. I’ve got my Ederol recorder and earbuds in so I can hear the levels in my ear while I talk. It’s just funny. That’s how serious I am about podcasting – I’m podcasting under a blanket. I am in Taiwan and I’ve been running a couple of days behind on getting an episode out. I think I last talked to you about 10 days ago. I’ve been working hard trying to stay on this weekly schedule and I wanted to make sure that I got an episode out while I was in Taiwan. The first thing I wanted to do was give you a little tip about internet marketing business that came to me while I was on the airplane.

Episode 024 Transcript Episode 24: WordPress SEO Tips Part 2 – More with Shane Eubanks I’m back. You missed me. Thanks for all the cards and letters and emails I’ve had all kinds of craziness here in Texas. Of course, we had tornadoes. Luckily, I was not a victim of any tornado. That’s not a good excuse for podcasting delays, because the tornado did not hit my studio so I can’t really use that as an excuse. But, there was a lot of tornado related excitement around here over the last week. I had a birthday. Thank you to the 40 bajillion people who wished me happy birthday on Skype and on Facebook. I guess Facebook notifies you, so I got a lot of people writing on my personal wall and that was really cool. Thank you very much for all of that. I had a great party. My parents came up and we cut a cake and went out and had a nice steak and all that. That was really cool. Thanks to Mom and Dad for showing up and doing that. The week kind of got away from me. A lot of things going on in my day job as well, lots of changes and excitement going on there that are affecting me pretty dramatically in a happy way. Just a lot of stuff going on and I’m a few days late here. What I have for you today is the back half of the interview with Shane Eubanks. You’ll remember in the last episode, which was approximately a week ago, we started talking about WordPress SEO and particularly Shane came on and talked about the first five of 23 tips that he has for WordPress SEO, really good stuff. He is, as you will recall, a real live SEO, he does that for his day job. He does a lot more than just SEO, but that’s one of the many things that he does. The fifth tip that he left us with was a tip about using a premium framework. He recommended Genesis, which is what he uses, or Thesis, which is what I use. We’re going to pick that interview back up right now with tip number six. I will tell you that I’ll be back on schedule a couple of days from now on Thursday with a follow up piece related to SEO where we’re going to be talking about all of this deindexing and blog network attack that Google has been bringing to us the last couple of weeks. We’ll get you all caught up to date on that and I’ll let you know what I think about backlinks and what we do in the new world order where blog networks are being deindexed. For now,

Episode 023 Transcript Episode 23: WordPress SEO Tips and Interview With Shane Eubanks If it’s not obvious, I literally just got back from watching Hunger Games. I took my kids to see it, it’s actually their second time to see it, and they’re planning on going to see it again tomorrow. I did read the book and I’m in the middle of the second book right now, so don’t tell me what happens. Although, I’m kind of getting a feel for what’s going to happen here. The movie was great, I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun. The best thing was just going to the movie with your kids, that’s the greatest, and splurging on big drinks and popcorn and candy, and a bunch of junk that they don’t need and that costs way too much. That’s fun, I love doing that. We had a really good time at the movie and I thought it was really well done and represented the book well. Considering how detailed the book is I thought they did a pretty good job of paring it down to the essential elements and getting the story out there. That was really cool and I enjoyed that. I’ve got some great stuff for you tonight. It’s late night internet marketing here, it’s already the 31st of March at 1:00 in the morning. I’m a few days late with this episode, I totally apologize for that. Thanks for all your cards, letters, emails, and Facebook posts asking me where episode 23 was. It’s right here in my head and I’ve got some great stuff for you. What’s special about March 31st? It’s International Backup Day, we’re going to talk about that a little bit and I’m going to get after you about backing up your stuff. Then we’re going to start a three part series on SEO today. I was reading Search Engine Journal, which is a great online website if you haven’t looked at the before, and I saw a funny SEO joke. How many SEOs does it take to change a light bulb? Well, the good news it only takes one SEO to change light bulb, but it’s a lot of work and it can take three to six months. So there’s a little search engine ranking joke for you there. I’ve been wanting to use that rim shot sound effect, so sorry about that. We’re going to do a three-part series on SEO.
