The second half will be released in two weeks time. Both podcasts will be available in full for our patreon supporters. This week’s podcast is available in full for our patrons. Our Patreon supporters get access to two podcasts every week: Symptomatic Redness and Zero Squared, but if you’re listening on our free feed you’ll always be able to access one or the other podcasts each week. At the moment we have 575 patrons. As is typical we lost a few supporters at the end of last month. When we reach 600 patrons we’ll introduce a new series of patron only videos tentatively entitled Communism 101. This series will be based on a close reading of a 1970 book entitled “Communism” and written by the American professor Emile B. Ader as well as on research inspired as I summarize, critique and refute aspects of Ader’s book. I’m really eager to get started on this series and will make the audio from these videos available for free as audio podcasts on this RSS feed. Help me get started. Also our patrons get invites to both our Capital Volume One discussion streams and, if you donate $15 or more, you’ll receive a new electronic Zero Books title every month along with an invite to discuss it.

Derick Varn interviews Zero Books author Ed Simon about his book America and Other Fictions, secularization theory, and religious life in a modern world. Here's the back of the Jacket copy for Ed Simon's book: At a moment of cultural and political crisis, with forces of reaction seemingly ascendant throughout the West, it's fair to ask what use does anyone have for America, God, or any other similar fictions? What use does theological language have for the radical facing the apocalypse? Among the subjects considered: the need for an Augustinian left, legacies of American violence, speaking in tongues, the humanities facing climate change, the maturity of realizing that you will die, how to sail towards Utopia, and witches.

Symptomatic Redness: Swampside and Parkinson | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2848

This week's Symptomatic Redness features a conversation with Donald Parkinson. Parkinson was formerly of the Communist League of Tampa and the Swampside podcast, and he discusses the state of the radical socialist left today. Swampside Chats is the podcast where, every week, communists shoot the shit about current events, history, political economy, and theory. "You are free not only to invite us, but to go yourselves wherever you will, even into the Swamp. In fact, we think that is your proper place, and we are prepared to render you every assistance to get there. Only let go of our hands, don’t clutch at us and don’t besmirch the grand word freedom, for we too are 'free' to go where we please, free to fight not only against the Swamp but also against those who are turning towards the Swamp!"
