The Green Mtn. Teen Institutes, or GMTI, were a series of week long workshops for high school students that were held in Vermont from the mid 1980s through the 1990s. The model was based in Primary Prevention, and included a variety of leadership skill building opportunities, and community. We'll hear from alumni of GMTI about what it meant to them, and how their lives were effected. Mariame is a singer at the beginning of her career. Her background is Cree/Arab. Her original songs are mainly R & B but there are occasional hints of tribal rhythms. Her debut CD Bloom has just been released on the N'we Jinan label. Mariame and Baruch's conversation is revealing, and the music is moving. Also on tonight's show, Paul Howe reports after completing his 700 mile bike ride from Charlotte NC to New York NY to raise money for Plan International, an organization that helps children around the world.
