My Friend Irma was an old time radio comedy staring Cathy Lewis—and Joan Banks as Jane Stacy and her Scatterbrained Stenographer, Irma Peterson, played by Marie Wilson. Irma's Boyfriend, Al, Played by John Brown, has more get rich quick schemes than Don Lapre. He also refers to Irma by the pet name, Chicken. The Radio Series ran from 1947-1954. There were also 2 feature films, My Friend Irma, in 1949 which also featured Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, and My friend Irma Goes West in 1950.
21st Precinct was another classic old time radio crime drama based on real events from thePatrolmen's Benevolent Association of the City of New York. The show was produced by Stanley Niss and Everett Sloane played the role of precinct captain Frank Kennelly. Tales of the Texas Rangers was a western old time radio adventure which premiered on July 8, 1950 on the NBC radio network and remained on the air through September 14, 1952. Joel McCrea starred as Texas Ranger Jayce Pearson, who used the latest scientific techniques to identify the criminals and his faithful horse, Charcoal, to track them down. The shows were reenactments of actual Texas Ranger cases. The show was produced and directed by Stacy Keach, Sr., and was sponsored for part of its run by Wheaties. The Comic Weekly Man was an old time radio show which aired from 1947 to 1954 where the host would read the Sunday comics in dramatic, and sometimes humorous fashion, complete with music and sound effects. Folks of all ages would tune in to hear the show and to enjoy the reading of the comics by the Comic Weekly Man. Some of the strips he would read from included Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Hi and Lois, and many, many others. Father Knows Best was a popular American radio and television sitcom that began on NBC Radio on August 25th, 1949. It starred Robert Young as General Insurance agent Jim Anderson. His wife Margaret was first portrayed by June Whitley and later by Jean Vander Pyl. The Anderson children were Betty (Rhoda Williams), Bud (Ted Donaldson) and Kathy (Norma Jean Nillson). Others in the cast were Eleanor Audley, Herb Vigran and Sam Edwards. Sponsored by General Foods, the series was heard Thursday evenings on NBC until November 19, 1953.
