A drizzly "English" Sunday gives me lots of time to work on RSA and get some small projects complete around the house. I always "Proof Read" the shows before the final mix, and I was able to listen for "Oh dear I messed that one up" moments while doing mundane tasks like taking the recycling out. Well I grossly underestimated how much running around from place to place I'd be doing on my European vacation. Enough that I realized fairly quickly that I had bitten off WAY more than I could chew. Wound up coming back early as the lack of sleep (and absolutely atrocious hotel breakfast food) caused me to start getting sick. I realized that I couldn't handle being sick in a hotel room in Berlin when everything is closed on a Sunday and Monday is a public holiday. But I'm back and recovered and going back to the old days of getting the show posted a day late! I'm getting closer and closer to my trip and its beginning to be hard to concentrate on my day to day activities. Who wants to work or clean the bathroom when there are restaurants and bars to look at in cities I haven't been to. At least in decades. I'm actually quite addicted to google maps, which makes Germany... problematic with their privacy laws. Still its just going to make exploring that much more fun. There's a Poutine restaurant a block from my hotel in Berlin. They will be judged. But I'm also going to be doing shows on the road, so expect grinning pictures of me in front of landmarks instead of band photos. Looking forward to seeing a number of great people! Its a wet, dreary weekend in Toronto, so what better time is there to get RSA finished so its not a chore on Sunday morning? But I didn't anticipate sleeping in as much as I did, so its out with the Sports Direct mug and a mega dose of tea. Starting to work on my trip itinerary, and figure out some things to do, but I will be bringing my Notebook with me so RSA will be right on time while I'm away! Started putting more time in each day on Duolingo. I made the decision that I should at least try to not be an embarrassing tourist who just knows how to ask "Do you speak English?" As an aside, every time I see Dutch translations I think "They're messing with us." Spreekt u Engels? Don't even get me started on how many words make up "Sorry" in German. Do you know how painful it is for a Canadian to not be able to rapidly say Sorry. "Es tut mir leid." doesn't roll of the tongue. Especially when its me... Spent most of the week sick as a dog, but it would appear that I was extra conscientious about getting started on this weeks show. I literally turned on my main PC for the first time in nearly a week and was like "Good man Todd. You got this weeks show mixed!" While cleaning my closet on Friday I discovered a couple of packages that *should* have been sent out, so I made sure to hit the post office yesterday. The last like 4 are waiting for mailing supplies to arrive as I've run out. I'm keeping my streak alive with Duolingo so I don't embarrass myself too much in Europe. Its been a very very long time, and I'm honestly glad English has crept into everyones lives. But when you're visiting another country, it's polite to at least learn a few phrases and show you're making an honest attempt. Still working on the plans for my trip in May, and as I've said a few times, I'm hoping that I'll get to meet some "RSA people". I'll be mostly in Hamburg (for a few days) and then Berlin. Plus I've been convinced that when I'm in the western end of the trip that I should visit Bruges as well as my planned stops in Antwerp and Amsterdam. Something about a chocolate museum? I'm in. We've gotten some of the prizes out the door from the 2023 membership drive. Canada is mostly done, I'm starting on the USA, but the International packages will take a little longer as the private postal service I use is really only good for the US anymore. So I'll have to fill out forms and take forever with Canada Post. They used the pandemic as an excuse to make customs declarations incredibly time consuming. I'd also like to mention here that I'll be in Berlin from May 23-30, and while I'm not involved in WgT, I'm looking to organize a meet up either in Berlin or Leipzig.
